My mom got a new set made recently using diamonds from her original ring and from diamonds from jewelry she had been given by her grandmother. I love seeing her new rings because I know she didn’t love her original set (long story) and it had been too small for her to wear for many years.

@snowjewelz: I was thinking along the same lines as @youboots: could you find a manufacturing jeweller that could take your existing set and use it to create something new for you?

So I don't even own an engagement ring/wedding band (my choice), but I would get a new set! People's tastes change, go for something that you love that you will be excited about wearing.

@kiddosc: hello sparkler for the right hand! That’s how I wear mine. Wedding bands on the left and eternity on the right. My rings are the only pieces of jewelry I wear.

I just gone mine sized up but the setting is eternity pave- so a new setting was not cost effective. I’d go see a jeweler that does custom work in house and see what’s possible. My local jeweler is amazing and creative with repurposing.

I have a similar issue, where I think I eventually need to get my e-ring resized since it's tight after pregnancies, and I think I'm going to just get it re-set. For me, my e-ring doesn't go w my wedding band anyway--it's a tension setting that doesn't sit flush, so I'd love to have it re-set so I could wear it together. Besides, the ring was designed by an artist in Germany and when I got it resized after we got it engaged, it got lost in customs for 2 months, and dh understands I don't want to do that again!

@gingerbebe: In your shoes I'd def keep the original too! My original bands are completely plain and I picked them.

@peachykeen: My originals right now are both cut in half with a warped prong so they don't even look great haha!

@birdofafeather: Aww, I'm sorry you lost it! It is our 5 year anniversary coming up... Does that count? For our 10 year anniversary we already decided we're going on a big vacation so it's probably gonna be even more expensive than rings haha!

@kiddosc: What about wearing the eternity band on the other hand?

@looch: My current bands are both completely plain platinum. I'm getting a new set, they'd be like a half eternity probably. And I'd still use my original diamond

I'd keep the originals for sentimental reasons.

I mentioned to DH I'd like to get an eternity band for our 10 year anniversary, and we tried one on last time we had my engagement ring inspected. It looks goofy with my wedding band, so I'm rethinking that ask since I'd really be sad to stop wearing my wedding band.

I'm pretty attached to my wedding band and DH is rather proud of himself for the stone he picked out for the e-Ring. As much as I would like to have bands that have pave stones on the under side DH did give me an eternity ring that does just that for my right hand.

All that to say I'd probably just get my original resized.

If I was picking out something new, I would want it to be “for” something, like an Anniversary, Birthday, something. I like “big” purchases to be attached to something!

I haven’t been able to find my wedding band (vintage and didn’t wear with my engagement ring) for 3 months and I’m pretty upset about it because it’s irreplaceable. Not the same, but I don’t think if/when we decide to replace I would get it remade (if I could find photos of it). I would buy a totally new one for an anniversary.

I didn't vote because I'm emotionally attached to my set, but I also definitely understand the desire to get a new one! I'm not even sure what I would do in this case. I might end up going for something more practical and just saving the originals for sentimental reasons (but mine didn't cost much so selling wouldn't net us much).

I'd ask my husband how he felt about it, but that's only because he completely picked the stone and setting out himself (I didn't want to be involved at all), and I know he put a lot of time and effort into picking my ring. (To be fair, I picked his wedding ring for him too).

In my situation, I'd be more inclined to have my original set fixed and then get a third band as an anniversary band or a band to symbolize my kids. I actually have plans to have one done as a joint 10-year anniversary band/commemorate our kids in a few years (we just celebrated our 7th).

I mean... If I had the choice for a little upgrade, I might just go ahead and do that! Especially if my existing set needed reconstruction - I wouldn't feel as bad. I'd go for it!

@ValentineMommy: That's like the only reason. I feel like it's meant to be, haha! If the diamond never even fell out, then I'd eventually probably just resized cause I couldn't justify it to myself lol

I haven't 100% decided on what I'd do yet, so I thought it'd be fun to see what you would do in my shoes!

After 2 babies, my fingers got ridiculously fat and I never took off my rings so they were stuck. Still, I just kind of ignored it. Well, my diamond fell out of my ring last night (thank goodness it was right there and not lost!). I just went to the jeweler to get them cut off of me. Now I have 2 options.

1) Re-use the old set, re-sized obviously, and jeweler will be making a more secure setting

2) Get a new set!

Money is not a huge issue; I'm not picking anything astronomical. Of course it's less to just re-size/re-set my current set, but I also feel like this is my chance to get a new set haha. I don't not love my original set, but I'm not also so attached to it. Spending more for a new set is clearly calling my name, but I would be okay also to just get my original rings back. But I just feel like with all the work needed to be done on them, I might as well?!
