I can't imagine not having a real tree. We have a fake one too, that we put up in the back den so that we can put it up early. That's the only downside to a real tree, that you pretty much have to wait until the second week in Dec if you want it to stay fresh. Best of both worlds if you do both though. The year before last, DH and I went out and got my first real tree (DH always grew up with real ones) and it was the best! But we left it up until like March (legit, baaaad idea). Oh the mess. Oh the misery. We were stepping on needles well into last summer. Last year we just got a fake one because of the cost. But THIS year is our first year as a married couple. And the tree farm we go to gives away a free tree your first Christmas after you get married. The small amount of extra clean up and care is completely worth it. It is so much more fun picking a unique tree every year than to assemble the same plastic one. </p>
