@Bao: I didn't think it was cheesy, though the first book wasn't that great. As a series though, it just seemed to get better and better. There's an overarching story throughout the 6 books and I really enjoyed it! Plus I'm a sucker for romance and these books do have that. Bloodlines is the following series - it follows a couple of the side characters from the Vampire Academy series and I actually enjoyed that one even more! But I think it would be easier to read/follow if you read the Vampire Academy ones first.

@hellobeeboston: @josina: Just for clarifying, Red Rising by Pierce Brown isn't actually young adult. Although it's EXCELLENT and I highly recommend it to anyone!! :D

Here are some of my fave young adults:

Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Divergent by Veronica Roth
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Bloodlines by Richelle Mead
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
A Monster Calls (standalone novel) by Patrick Ness
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Uglies by Scott Westerfield
Everneath by Brodi Ashton
Sanctum by Sarah Fine
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
Across the Universe by Beth Revis
The Adoration of Jenna Fox (can be standalone) by Mary E. Pearson

And I'm currently reading The Iron King by Julie Kagawa and it's excellent so far!

I like Cory Doctorow's books, they're a little more science-fiction than The Fifth Wave.

And I read the first book in the Lunar Chronicles and liked it. And the Winner's Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski. These two are typical YA fantasy-romance.

I absolutely loved the Kingdom of Little Wounds by Susann Cokal. It's hard to describe but it's almost like historical fiction except the kingdom isn't a real place. Most of the book is about power and how one person can have/gain/keep power over other people. It's pretty dark and intense but totally great.

@Bao: I don't think there's a good thing they compare to. Although there's a movie and "abc family" tv show based on them.

It's similar in a way to Harry Potter except more love triangles.

I loves all of Cassandra Clare's shadowhunter books, although there are a ton of them.

One of my bridesmaids actually wrote a book The Ward and its sequel The Isle. It's about a flooded nyc where everyone lives on the roofs of buildings. Obviously I'm biased, but think they're really good!

I  YA Series.
I loved the Forest of Hands and Teeth series by Carrie Ryan.
Working on the Red Rising Trilogy right now. At first it was a bit too sci-fi for me, but now I'm hooked.
Recently read Under The Never Sky Trilogy, really good.
I could list way too many... Vampire Academy, Throne of Glass Series, The Mortal Instruments, Shatter Me Series....
