We still have a few more years with our younger DS at daycare. My older DD (6) just started 1st grade. 1st time since DD2 was born that we are only paying for one kid in care. Stupid pandemic stole that celebration from us last year as we ended up paying for full time care for DD1 despite being in K. My youngest will be doing Jr. Kindergarten at his daycare because he misses the TK cutoff by 17 days. Thankfully my job has me working from home on a permanent basis so I no longer have to pay for afterschool care. I love the fact that we'll be paying less than $200 a week for both of them to do before and after school care right at their school. When they were both in daycare, we were paying more than our mortgage a month. Our high was 4k a month in childcare costs, back when we had a full time nanny and DD1 was in preschool 3 days a week, to this past year we paid $0 because we were all working from home due to Covid. I mean….we paid with our sanity.😳 but we didn’t pay money, so…silver linings! </p> <p>This school year, I expect we’ll need 10 hours of care a week in after school help, but that’s not bad at all. One of the bright sides of the kids getting older. My youngest is out of Kinder so even he will be going full days. If everything goes according to plan we'll only be using care 11.5 hours/week. We've cut the hours down a lot since we're not tied to commutes anymore. </p> <p>It felt like we would never get here but we're here! Seriously Covid don't screw with me on this. I need this. </p>
