I think the main thing is you *are* concerned. If I were you I would schedule a conference with the teacher to express your concerns in greater detail and see what can be done. Kids learn to read at different paces, and some kids like to sit alone. I suspect my three year old might always be one of them, and that's fine. (Her teachers encourage her to interact with classmates more, and she's new to school and the youngest in her class, so I'm not really worried at this point, but you're not alone with worrying about this stuff.. I think all parents do to some extent!) But if you're feeling like something isn't right, or maybe like your LO's personality at home isn't lining up with at school, talk to the teacher! They are the one with your LO all day at school!

So my son is in year 1 this year and all throughout kindergarten and the 3 months in year 1 he has been on the yellow reading level. I have been told he was on level 7 and has progressed to level 9 but he is still bringing home the same books as last year with a yellow dot on the back of them. I am really worried he is falling behind. Everytime I ask his teacher she says he is doing well but I am seeing all the other children move up levels however he has remained on this level for a few months now.

I know they keep a reading running record and this is how they determine what levels but I have no idea what this means and how to help at home.

Any suggestions?

I have also noticed that my son has no one sitting next to him in class anymore. normally he is seated beside someone for help if he needs it. he is the only child without anyone sitting next to him. Should I be concerned?
