@agold: our last family photos I got 15 images. I just did a small book with one pic per page. I like the idea that someone had of one book with a collection of professional photos. Depending how often you do photos you could have a book every couple years or more.

@agold: The more I think about it, I think I'm going end it at the end of the year so I can continue with the yearly calendar family books. So his "first year" book will be his first year of life + first full calendar year.

@katsupgirl: this is a great option. thanks. I'm for sure going to do first year of life. Maybe I will try for 2, but you are awesome at going for three years each kid!

@ALV91711: I'm just doing chatbooks now.. its about as easy as I can find. And better than no books. And its awesome you get enough family photos to make a photo book!! I did an entire large photo book from my publisher way back when for my engagement photos! :silly: I could probably make one from my first family photos with one baby, but since then, I don't get enough for an entire book (maybe because of squirmy baby... I've starting doing just 30 minute session instead of 60 min), so I'm going to have to lump them in with the yearly photo books. And that's also been a sticky point for me, since it will seem odd to have a chunk of professional photos in with regular daily iphone shots.

@MommySLP: This is exactly what I've been thinking about - each kid getting a book when they are older. You are doing great. I hope I can figure this out and keep it up with being more intentional about the pictures I take.

@meadow: Great idea about purchasing two copies!!

@DesertDreams88: I will probably do a pregnancy/first year for my second baby because I don't know if I have a ton of pictures for her! I'm a hermit with babies and haven't done too too much this year.

@MenagerieMama: Great thought about a book dedicated to a series of professional photos!

@PurplePumps: If you end your son's first book at his birthday in september, when will you start your first family book? This is the issue I'm coming upon.

@LadyDi: omg... poor third kid! :silly: i'm trying so hard to make sure my second girl has what first girl has. Its hard!

@Jess1483: awesome. I will probably start after the first year for each kid. and yes, just have an annual book for the family.

@graceandjoy: yes, I'm running into this issue with dd2 and her first book. How to dedicate it to her. I don't really have enough to also make a dedicated "family" album simultaneously with dd2 first year album. But there are some awesome pictures that I want to get into an album that don't include dd2! (i.e., all the awesome trips my husband took without me this last year! wtf?! :silly: ) such first world problems. I don't know why I let this challenge me so much! Maybe a nice form of procrastination. :silly:

I made specific books for DD1, and then after DD2 just started doing family books. I know it's "unfair" for DD2 but most of the pictures are intermixed so I didn't see the point anymore.

And I do calendar year, not birthdays.

I do an annual family book and then a first year book for each kiddo. That book includes their first birthday. But they don’t each have a yearly book after year one—just the family one.

So far I’ve just done a first year book for each girl (LO2 obviously had pics of big sister in her book too) and then books for each of our international trips. I also have a book that has all of our family professional prints before we moved (so maternity with LO1 through LO2 first birthday). I need to do some sort of everyday photos summary but so far this is the best I’ve got! We use blurb and wait for sales and as far as I’ve seen no page limits! Also I always get copies of the baby book for grandparents and that covers Christmas presents for that year :)

Im going to do a first year book focused on him and end with his birthday (sept) or end of year, then just do yearly family books. Subsequent children if they happen will get the same. Of course older sibling may be in a lot, but I will also try to focus on them and make sure I get pics of their milestones too.

I am so behind because I’ve only done one book and dd is 4. But since her birthday is in December, I started with her birthday and went through Christmas the following year. From now on I’m planning on doing yearly books, which will means Ds first year will be split among two books.

I did a "first year" book for each boy, and ended on their first birthdays. I haven't done any since but with more than one kid I would take the approach suggested above, a family yearbook, and end with Christmas and New Year's Eve.

I do calendar years, and our Christmas / New Year's pictures always end up split over the two albums because I never have space :)

Like other previous posters I did a pregnancy book for each. It included bump pictures, memories, ultrasound photos, maternity photos, their birth story, and newborn photos.

@agold: I end with their birthday pictures. I also do an individual book for each kid for each year. I try to take individual pictures but of course they all have sibling/family pictures too. But they have different activities, etc so it’s easy to cater the book to each kid. It’s a lot of work but I’m doing this instead of picture albums or anything so I want each kid to be able to have their own books as adults instead of having to decide who gets the family book. I do a separate small family book for just Christmas pictures/activities each year.

So far I have only a first year book for DS1 who is 6. I have some catching up to do. I do small photo books any time we do professional photos.

My plan is a calendar year family book starting after DS1’s first year book.. I will also make DS2 a first year book of him with his monthly photos and firsts. I have started a couple of my books but just need to get working on them.

I love photo books but am so behind for my littlest. Here’s what I do:
I decided to only do separate books for their first 3 years. I end with birthday pictures.
For baby boy’s book I include pics of him with his sis cause that’s his family. I just try not to overload on those since it’s his book.

My oldest is 6 so I will do a yearly book Jan -Dec as well as the solo book for Baby boy until I have his first three. Then it will just be the one.

Trying to get his 2 yr one done before he turns 3 in a couple months.

I’ve made one family book per year since our first year of marriage (started in the January after we married in October). I never made a kid specific book- theirs births were just part of our family story, if that makes sense. It felt more sustainable to me, especially since we weren’t sure how many kids we would have and I didn’t want to do something for my first I couldn’t keep up for any others

@bhbee: thanks for sharing what you did. I did a “waiting for baby” pregnancy type book for #1. I found would I was pregnant with #2 just a couple days after #1s birthday. We’ve actually led a pretty boring home body life since then, so I will have to think how I want to divide up these books. And yes, I’d like to soon get to a calendar year yearly family book. So I’m not too entirely far behind. Hopefully our years to come will involve a few more trips and outings!

When I started photo books with #1, I always ended on her birthday. It felt like a nice little happy ending and clear place to tie it up. When #2 was born, he happened to have a birthday 11 days before hers. I still just made one book per year - as you say, impossible to separate. Then it ended at the same point but with both bdays. I did make separate baby books (like writing in an actual book with monthly photos and firsts) but for everyday life photos, impossible to separate. Now this last year #3 arrived half a year off from them on bday month, so I decided to make a shorter photo book for the rest of 2018 and then do calendar year books from now on. Oh I did also (because I love this stuff) make each a book about the pregnancy for them. Nothing huge but some of the story and photos that wouldn’t fit in a baby book, ending in our first pictures as a new family, and featuring the older siblings for #2 and 3. So I think you can make separate books if you keep the focus very narrow, but wouldn’t try to do year in review separately, if that makes sense.

That’s just what made sense to me - do what you think works best! I figure, the kids will not care as much as I will when I’m old and alone paging through these :silly:

I’m finally getting around to making a first year photo book for each of my girls. My question is this - do you end your first year book with the first birthday party pictures, or do you include the first birthday celebration in the second book?

Secondary question - if you have more than one kid, do you at some point just make one family year book? I don’t know how I can do a solo second book for my first girl when it end up including my second girl, or how I make a solo first year book for second girl, when her whole life includes the first girl.
