Here's a technique. Good start with OxiClean. http://pagingsupermom.com/2011/03/preparing-baby-layette/

A lot of DD1's clothes that I pulled out last week has yellow around the collar that definitely wasn't there when I packed it up two years ago. I soaked in Oxy clean and then rewashed in dreft. Most of the stains came out but a couple are still icky. They were stored in Rubbermaid bins.

I haven't had this happen and I always stain treat, and air dry before packing away. I use a combo of cardboard and Rubbermaid containers.

Not sure how much it helps before Vs after, but I got two year old hand me downs like that and soaked for several hours in oxy clean then washed them and almost all came out.

Hm I didn't have this problem. But certainly try soaking it in oxiclean. And even if it doesn't come off I would still keep it for at home wear!

This happened to some of our clothes. I washed Chloe's clothes then stored them in air tight containers before putting them in the attic. I re washed them when we got them down for Charlotte, and some were pretty stained.

I use oxyclean stain remover spray & had to really saturate some of my clothes and wash them 2-3 times. It got 95% of the stains out, but there were a few outfits we just couldn't use.

I would probably try to get them out now. I noticed the same thing (yellow spit up stains that hadn't been apparent before) when I recently went through my LO's clothes. A combination of OxyClean and blue Dawn soaked for about 20 minutes worked well for me. They are back in storage, so I don't know if they are gone for good or whether they will reappear, but for now they are gone.

This happened to me! I took out clothes for #2 from cardboard boxes. I went online and it seems that they are mould on clothes because cardboard boxes let in moisture. I tried the vinegar soaking method before putting them in the wash twice and it hasn't works. I should try Shout or something. . .

@anandam: I've removed these stains from my baby clothes to use for my lo so they've been packed away for like 25 years! I used oxy clean then shout and almost all came out!

I ran into this problem with some of DS1 clothes that I just took out of storage for DS2. I tried using Zout and then washed them again but it didn't come out :/

I'm finally getting around to organizing and storing clothes LO's outgrown ... and I'm finding yellow stains on almost every neckline, though they were definitely washed clean and line dried in the sun after last wearing a few months ago. Google tells me this happens from milk proteins in the fabric over time. Okay. So they looked clean, but weren't totally, apparently.

So my question is - would it do any good to do oxyclean etc and try and get the stains out now before I store them, or will they just reappear again by the time I hopefully pull the boxes out in a few years for #2? Anybody have experience with this? Secret method to be sure the stains are gone for good if I do wash again now?
