I'm kind of freaked out about letting him go 3 or 4 hours between sleeping but it is worth a shot. Can't get any worse!

Agree to try to start the day earlier and go to bed earlier. My 5 month old gets up between 6 am and 7 am and goes to bed at 7pm, sometimes earlier if her naps have been bad. It's worked out well for us.

@Meltini: sometimes it takes a few days for them to adjust, but its been a nice, predictable schedule for us and has worked relatively well.

She is 11 months now and these days she wakes up earlier, so she's up from her AM nap by 10 or 10:30. We usually try to get out for an activity after the morning nap, and then walk immediately after the afternoon nap (so she doesn't get an extra nap in- after about 9.5 months if she took the 3rd nap bedtime was a disaster).

I would also do a earlier bedtime, which should push am wakeups earlier and make it easier to do.

Dd is 6.5 months and over the course of the past few weeks has dropped her third nap.

Our schedule now looks like this:
8:00 wakeup
10:00-11:00 - nap
2:00-3:00 - nap
7:00pm - bedtime

We roughly follow the 2-3-4 schedule. Last night she was exhausted by 6:00 so I put her down at 6:30 and she still slept until 8:00.

Good luck!!

I think our schedule around that time was:
8:00 wake up
9:30 or 10:00 nap
2nd nap - 2.5 or 3 hours after wake up from first nap
bedtime 7

occasionally she'd take crappy naps so I'd go for a walk and she'd get an extra 20 minute snooze in.

Oh- and at 11 months my daughter can't stay up much longer than 2 hours after she first wakes up. We are consistently on a 2-3-4 schedule (thats hours awake) and have been for a while. They are generally most tired in the morning.

We tried that once because I thought he was ready to go down to 2 naps a day but dummy me didn't think to move bed time up to when his 3rd nap would have been. I had him awake for 3ish hours and it was drama. We will give that a try and see how it works.

Ok so in theory you guys are saying he should be on a schedule like this -

Wake up 7-8
Nap #1 @ 10
Nap #2 @ 2ish
Sleep @ 7?

Right now he is solidly on falling asleep right about 2 hours after he wakes up. I'm not so sure how easy it will be to stretch that out to 2.5 hours or more. I guess it is worth a shot though. Nothing else is working.

i agree with the previous posters. trying dropping the 3rd nap and putting him down around 6.30. he will probably start waking up earlier as well. it will be hard at first getting him to adjust his naps, but it sounds like he may be getting too much of a good thing with the naps and not tired enough by bedtime.

I agree with @Rubies: at 6 months R magically moved to 2 naps a day and a bedtime between 6:30-7.

I would try to start getting rid of his third nap and have a 6-6:30pm bedtime. However, I think it might be easier to do this if his day started a bit earlier, too.

Ok I need thoughts and ideas here! My little guy just turned 6 months old yesterday and we are having night time sleep problems. Naps are fantastic. We cuddle for a little bit, put him in his zipadee zip, read a book, put him in his crib, walk out, and he is always asleep within 10 minutes with little to no crying. Bed time is a different story though

Our bedtime routine -
7 - Wakes up from last nap, gets diaper change
7:15 - Eats cereal and fruit then digests for a few minutes
7:40 - Nurses (we are just starting to move this up from right before we put him down)
8:15 - Bath time
8:45 - Book and some cuddles
9 - In his crib

Once he is in his crib we say goodnight and leave. He will usually babble for 5-10 minutes but instead of falling asleep like he does at nap time, he goes full on ragey baby. Last night he cried and screamed for over an hour before I gave in and brought him down to our room to sleep in his rock n play. We have tried letting him cry for 10-15 minutes straight, we have tried going in and comforting him with our voice only, we have tried going in and comforting him by picking him up and then putting him down when calm, we have tried rocking him, we have tried shushing and patting on the arm (which always used to work). I am out of ideas. I feel like he is overly tired but I don't know how to get him to sleep earlier. Our typical sleep schedule looks like this -

9 am - wake up (we are trying to move this up slowly)
11 am - Nap #1
12:30 pm - wake up
2:30 pm - Nap #2
4 pm - wake up
6 pm - Nap #3
6:30 - 7 pm - wake up
9 pm bedtime

I am open to any and all suggestions
