So an update: I emailed D*A customer service, first off they got back to me less than 24 hours later which was awesome. They clarified that "late winter" is January, but it could come in sooner. And then she pointed out their Catamaran rug which is almost exactly the same but with wider stripes, and available in November!

@ladyfingers: I love your nursery theme! We got our rug for LO's room from RugsUSA.com. I just did a search for blue rugs on there and came up with this one that's kind of similar... http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-blocks/navy/200HJHK08A-860116.html

If you're willing to go navy and white but with a different pattern (other than the stripes) this is their selection. There are some really cute ones! http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/control/newsearch;jsessionid=BA532DE46899CADAA5DA791368DADD0C.ajp13-jvm1?cid=ALL&SEARCH_FEATURE_ID5=8187&SEARCH_FEATURE_ID2=ALL&PRICE_RANGE=ALL

They can be kind of pricey but they have sales A LOT so I'd just keep an eye out. We got ours for 75% off during a 4th of July promotion!

I wouldn't worry about it being back ordered for now. Go ahead and order it especially if you can return it if you find something better. You don't NEED a rug until they start really moving/crawling anyways.

Hey there! I did a flat weave striped rug from dash and albert for my nursery with a sheepskin hide on top. The rug is nice and keeps my now 9 month old from skinning her knees on the hardwood floors. I also used a rug pad to make the rug a bit softer. But it still doesn't compare to a cut pile rug or carpet. However, because it's flat it makes it super easy for her to play on. Have you checked out pottery barn kids? http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/stark-bono-rug/?pkey=dboys-rugs&cm_src=productsearch
here is a rug in your color scheme that will be soft, but isn't striped...on the up side, it will hide more dirt that the awning stripe. Best of luck!

What about doing a green rug like grass? We have a bright green shag rug from Ikea(it looked like a skinned muppet in the store, but looks great on the floor)

I've had a polypropylene rug before (think it was a Safavieh Thom Filicia rug?) and it was pretty sturdy/thick. And if you put a good pad under it (not the webbing type, but a real pad) it will definitely be nice and thick and padded!

It's supposedly in stock here - you could see if it really is?

@ladyfingers: You could always put a faux sheepskin rug over part of the striped rug if you feel like it's too flat? Kind of like this: http://www.younghouselove.com/2011/03/thats-the-way-uh-huh-uh-huh-we-like-it/ just as a place for baby to lie/sit and play.

@Minnie_Girl: Oh, yes I forgot about them, thanks! And that's true about the thickness, I guess! I am weird and was thinking ooh, baby should have a nice cushy rug to play on when he gets older. And I worry it would slide around more, even with a rug pad? But I guess maybe it doesn't matter. The biggest thing is the backordering situation. Not that he MUST HAVE A RUG and CANNOT WAIT, but it's just annoying.

Have you heard of Joss and Main? I've seen many fantastic rug sales there--in the ballpark of $400 + markdowns, very good deals. Is there a reason you're trying to avoid thin rugs? They can be nice because they're harder to trip on, haha!

So we're doing a baseball theme with a NY Yankees slant (DH's favorite team) in the nursery. There will be a few Yankees-specific things, but for the most part, that will be brought in through the colors (navy and white with gray walls). I have been searching everywhere for a navy-and-white striped rug (reminiscent of Yankees pinstripes) and all I've found is this:

http://www.dashandalbert.com/product/view/trimaran-stripe-navy-ivory-indoor-outdoor--RDB190

Which is PERFECT. But. I feel like it will be thin, and I hate that it's backordered until "late winter." I don't know what that means (December? February?), and I'm due in early February.

But otherwise, I can't find ANYTHING else. Everything else even remotely similar has more denim or baby blue-colored stripes, and/or is also thin. As a side note, I hate that rugs are so effing expensive.

I'm looking for something between 4x6 and 6x9 size. Ideally navy blue and white striped, but I would be willing to compromise if it was awesome enough. The glider will be solid navy blue, the crib and bookcases will be white. We found navy blue changing pad covers. We registered for a few different crib sheets -- one with blue and white stripes, one with blue stars against white, and one a light blue background with baseballs (I like to be able to switch stuff out for variety lol). I could do a solid navy blue rug, but I kind of wanted something with a little more mix in it so there's not just a big dark rug on the dark wood floor (if that makes sense).

Anyway, help is welcomed!
