@meadow: awww Meadow I´m sorry! That drop off sounds terrible and yes she is a smart girl and is delaying things. My kid would pee literally 5 minutes after they did their structured potty visit. And he was fine at home! I´m like dude WHY?!!! I don´t want to give advice if you don´t want it but try to be chill about it (It´s ok babe, you had an accident, maybe tomorrow you won´t!) so she doesn´t get all angsty about it. Does bribery work for your daughter? M&Ms are how I got my son to hold pee overnight and stop the daycare accidents. But it took a LONG TIME. Oh and last week he had 3 pee accidents in one day. I am back to work full time and the poor bugger was stressed.

@pachamama: Thanks! That does make me feel better.

I am getting a lot of feedback from my friends IRL that I should go backwards and put her in pull-ups. It is so demoralizing. My mom has been strong for me that I am doing the right thing which helps. So does reading everyone's stories on here and not feeling alone.

Yesterday was a SUPER hard day. The last 2 days, drop off took 40 minutes because DD kept wanting to go potty but nothing would come out. I am pretty sure it was a manipulation tactic to get me to stay. It was so hard because I want her to be successful and if me helping her pee at drop off helps, great....but I can't just stay forever. Tuesday she did pee and it helped avoid the morning accident that she usually has (drop off is in a different classroom with a wide range of ages so they don't bring her frequently). But yesterday man.......we went 4 times on 4 different potties ... in 2 different classrooms....and nothing. not a drop. Then when I finally cut the cord and left she was hysterical and threw herself on the ground. The teacher picked her up and as I walked away I saw her trying to nose dive out of the teacher's arms. My heart was breaking. When I got to work, I saw a notification on my phone that said she had an accident basically as I left. A friend of mine texted me saying that she saw DD pee ON the teacher. *MORTIFIED*

Today they are sleeping instead of waking up an hour early, so hopefully that will set us off on the right foot! Fingers crossed!

@meadow: That's too funny! Yeah the adult potties are goofy but I guess it makes them adapt quick and if you're in public and they have to use a real one it's no big deal?
DO NOT beat yourself up over the daycare accidents- I don't even think it's possible for toddlers to tell teachers they have to go. That's why the teachers make them go at set times and the kids usually learn pretty quick. I think my son peed every day for like 2 months!! And he will STILL not tell them (or ask for water!)

@pachamama: so funny story.... I walked into daycare last Tuesday and the 2.5-3 yo room only has adult potties...😱 I was floored....they had little potties in all previous rooms....including <1 yo! I asked and the director said basically it is what it is & they don't use inserts because for sanitary reasons (I get it, but I looked it up ..... NJ allows everything....even little potties that you dump into a flushing toilet!!) Oh and they are the u-shaped seats which seem so much harder for a LO!!

Big shock to me!

DD has 3 accidents at school last week and peed in the garage as I turned off the car 2 afternoons. :( apparently she doesn't tell her teachers at all......so she just gets sat on the potty every hour (sometimes successfully, sometimes not.) It makes me sad bc she's sooo good at telling me at home!!

@pachamama: She's doing well.... we are at 0 or 1 accidents per day. The accidents are morphing from puddle to "wet pants-squeal-run to bathroom". So I see improvement! She hasn't left the house in a car in almost 2 weeks. So I'm a little nervous for pee accidents in the car when we start commuting next week....so we'll see!! Thanks for asking!

@pachamama: Recently-trained DD fell into the toilet in the airport restroom RIGHT before we were boarding an overnight, international flight. She was so shocked and upset; I was trying my best not to laugh while also being very grateful I had extra clothes in the carryon!

@meadow: right?! those mini potties are ADORABLE, our library has one and my son always makes me "go potty too, mama!" on it and it's comical. The NYS rule is bc of hygiene I guess, plastic potties and plastic topper things are hard to clean well so they just make them go big boy potty. Silly.
How is your girl doing with potty training?

@pachamama: wow. Just wow.

We are at a chain in NJ & they have miniature potties with plumbing - it was so funny the first time I walked into the bathroom expecting to see toilets for the teachers & instead finding kiddie potties! It's funny how different things can be when our states are so close!

@meadow: they only can use an adult toilet in registered daycares here in NY (apparently). what my place does actually works pretty well- they put the whole seat up, boys kind of dip their butts into the bowl and put their legs together so their penis points down naturally. That way like instantly the boys can pee totally on their own and no carer is every touching their penis! But yeah she didn't think it was a big deal when he fell in and I was like, dude, that traumatizes little kids.

@maddyz: we haven't been doing dresses....seems like she needs more skills at holding her dress up so it doesn't get wet......so just straight up shorts. We tried bike shorts yesterday....those went well....otherwise she's been wearing normal shorts ( draw string of course)

So I don’t think it’s weird so send her commando, but I think you’re ok to switch to undies.

We sent my son to a drop in preschool a few times after potty training and he had some poop accidents where it fell out of his pants and caused cleaning problems. It led to quite an issue, and eventually I stopped sending him to this place because of how terribly they handled it.

We had a shockingly easy time potty training our son at 25 months. We did the Oh Crap method mostly. Daycare unfortunately really resisted going commando- would not bend on that "rule" so I had to cave. I was pissed! I thought it was going to be a big deal and mess my son's good no-accident streak up, but it did not affect my son whatsoever. And I think we only did like a week commando. Oh but I do have to add he did pee once a day for like 6 weeks at daycare. They let him fall in the toilet twice so he was probably traumatized. He never ever had accidents at home so I was like, sorry people, don't know what to tell ya! Then I bribed him with M&Ms and he hasn't peed there since.

@meadow: We did it in December so it wasn't an issue for us. My daughter has some of the bicycle shorts from Old Navy and I think they would be a great option. They are longer and fitted to the thigh like leggings but will be much cooler. Fairly in expensive too. I think with her sitting in the floor and rolling around, I'd avoid any of her other shorts.

We went commando for a few weeks at daycare. I let her wear leggings or pull on pants. No dresses of course. We didn't have any issues with the teachers or director either. They were amazed at how well she did and told other parents about the method. We had floater in one day and she said "uh, you forgot to put her in underwear." I had to explain, haha.

@meadow: I’m right there with you being obsessed with potty training right now.

My older daughter wasn’t in daycare or school yet when she potty trained, but she went to undies pretty quickly after going commando and didn’t have any extra accidents. She was a bit older than your LO (2 years 9 months or so) but she was so excited for the undies that it didn’t hold her back. That said she was already good at getting her pants down.

If you do send her in underwear, maybe let the teachers know they can throw them out after any really bad accidents?

I didn't vote because I did both! With my oldest, we did undies right away at daycare. He had a gazillion accidents that first week, but after that, he was much better! But he was also self-motivated to potty train.

My youngest was reluctant to potty train, so we did commando. We did send spare undies and the teachers would put him in them after an accident, but for most of the day, he'd be commando.

I didn't vote because I think it's up to you and your daycare's level of comfort. But I WILL say that undies CAN help with mess! If it's pee, undies are another layer of absorbent material so there's less pee on the floor to clean up (especially if they have carpeted areas). If it's a poop accident, undies will contain it more vs poop on the carpet! I'd rather throw away poopy undies rather than clean up poop on the carpet... and I have done both a couple times!

I personally love the training pants style of undies, where there is more layers of cotton to soak things up. The Disney brand fits 2T well and is very soft. The Gerber and Fruit & Loom ones are more like 3T.

I can't believe I'm posting a third time in a week on potty training - so I'm sorry in advance for being "that person".

So DD is doing well commando under her shorts. We basically did Oh Crap PT. Now the author suggests commando for a couple weeks. I'd have no problem with that except - next Tuesday she starts back at daycare. Did anyone who did commando to start with send their DD or DS to school commando for any length of time?

I don't want to put her in pull ups at school -- seems like a regression. But I don't think undies will make accidents any less messy for the daycare teachers. Daycare told me last week when I called that pull ups or undies were my choice and they would support that. But I didn't think to ask about commando. So before I make a fool of myself if that is RIDICULOUS - opinions?

Oh - and she is only sort of good at pulling up her pants and really not great at pushing them down. Often she is more interested in me doing it. I kind of want her to master the shorts before we add another layer...right?
