You'll need to modify your "budgeted" column for the previous month. So if you have $42.36 in your outflows for the previous month, budget $42.36 in the same category. If there was no spending in a category that month, leave the budgeted number at 0.

If you have money in that category from previous months, you can do a few things. Go back to the previous months and set the budgeted columns to 0. You can also try to budget a negative number, but I'm not sure if that will work.

You say you don't want to start fresh, so I'm not sure if you are wanting the keep just your outflows from that past 6 months (record of purchases), or if you want to keep your budgeting amounts also. What I do is use the comment/note feature in the category heading to note how much I "should" put into each category each month.

I don't have my software on my work computer, but I can walk through it later when I get home if you don't get any more responses.

Let me know if that doesn't make sense.

PS The YNAB forums have a lot of info too. I don't use them much, but if you ever have complicated questions, they can help you out too! http://forum.youneedabudget.com/

I have been using YNAB for the last 6 months but have a new car payment and want to basically start over so that the lines showing a surplus and the lines showing an overage basically all go back to even. Is there a way to do that without doing a "fresh start"? I don't want to lose the info I have, but I do want everything to be at 0 for June 1.... help?
