What a great post! We aren't ttc yet, but I regularly practice hot yoga and hope to continue to do so even while ttc. Like pp said, I'll probably switch to prenatal yoga while pregnant just because of all the modifications that would be needed otherwise.

It helps to know what others may be doing. The consensus seems to be to listen to your body and take things in moderation. If/when pregnancy does happen I will switch to prenatal yoga for sure and lay off the heat. Thanks for the responses!

I think if you've been practicing regularly, then you should be fine. Your body is used to the heat. I also did hot power vinyasa flow yoga before I got pregnant. I continued practicing throughout my TWW until I got my BFP, although I took it a little easy during the TWW so as not to overheat. I ultimately ended up switching to prenatal yoga for the duration of my pregnancy, mostly b/c the first trimester hit me really hard, and there was no way I was going to be able to physically keep up with the hot power yoga class. Plus, there are a whole bunch of poses that you shouldn't do or that need modifications while you're pregnant. I felt more comfortable in the prenatal class where I was sure the teacher understood the appropriate modifications.

The owner of my bikram yoga studio practiced during her pregnancy and didn't have any problems. But she had been practicing for years before her pregnancy, so that might have been a factor as well.

I've heard that Bikram yoga is "safe" through the first trimester if you've been practicing for a lengthy period of time (1 year+). I would assume that hot yoga would fall under the same precautions.

I do a lot of hot yoga, and while I can't really help with your question, I am fully planning on doing hot yoga while TTC and into my pregnancy if I am feeling well and my doctor is okay with it. Yoga is my "thing" and I'd be sad without it.

Maybe you should discuss it with your doctor?

I don't have advice to offer for hot vinyasa but I was a former Bikram student for 1.5 years (which I think is about the same as far as intensity goes.. once you feel hot, it's hot no matter what)... I stopped before TTC only because the heat started getting to me which was unusual. If all was okay, I would have continued Bikram even when I was TTC but would definitely stop once I was pregnant. If I were you, I'd still go (since you've been going for 4 yrs and used to the heat) but do monitor how you feel (ie... if you feel overheated, tired, etc.) I'd stop as soon as I felt anything out of the ordinary.

I have been researching online the pros and cons of taking a hot power yoga class while TTC and I have gotten some conflicting information. I have been practicing hot Vinyasa yoga for about 4 years now. I now do a hot power sculpt class (yoga with weight lifting) 2-3 times a week. There are some articles online that say that women should not be practicing yoga in a heated room even when they are TTC or the week they may be ovulating and other articles saying it can actually boost fertility. I am just so confused!

So, my question; has anybody taken hot yoga classes while TTC or if you are currently TTC, are you taking these classes?

The studios are not blazing hot like Bikram but they can get up there, depending on the instructor. Any feedback would help. Thanks.
