Honestly, I wouldn't alter your yoga workout at all. If you do end up getting pregnant, the little one growing inside of you is so protected in there.
The only thing not to do is hot yoga once you are pregnant.
Besides, the baby is so small the couple weeks after conception that I don't think any position you put your body into could even effect it.

I think hot yoga is more of an issue than poses. I just recently read a study linking miscarriage to hot tub use. I would do anything and everything, but at a studio that's not hot.

When I got pregnant my doctor advised just not to do hot yoga (and that after 20 wks to limit time laying on my back). She said while TTC don't worry about limiting workouts (or really anything else for that matter). You could always check with your doctor.

@highwire: ah, I see the ETA. Even in that case, I would still go to yoga during the TWW. You are not really “crushing” your uterus even if it might feel like you are, and the implanting embryo is sooooooooooooo tiny. Its well protected by fat, muscles and bone while it implants itself.

I’m a big believer in continuing to live your normal life during the TWW, so I’m a little biased that way for normal activities, especially those you enjoy and that relieve your stress. Good luck! :)

I did hot yoga during my TWW, and it didn't seem to impact my ability to get pregnant. I tried to take it easy during class i.e. didn't go too deeply into twists, did bridge instead of wheel, and stayed away from inversions.

I wouldnt' worry about it to much. They are so protected in there, not much can smush them. Even now, at 30 weeks when I slouch over to far (because I have terrible posture at my desk) the baby will just kick the crap out of me and basically just says "hey lady, move, you're squishing me!"

@yoursilverlining: I added a little disclaimer at the top, but the studio does not offer a prenatal program of any kind. They just divert to suggesting at home DVDs or getting permission from the doctor.

I would not give it up during the TWW. If your yoga center has a prenatal yoga instructor, you could always consult with them and see what they say about certain poses/movements.

Any ladies alter their yoga practice during the TWW?

We did bow pose (where you lay on the floor on your stomach and reach back to grab your feet to make a "bow shape"), and I couldn't help but think I am crushing my uterus in this pose.

I tried to do a little research online, but of course, got flooded with a ton of varying bits of information.

ex: No poses laying on your back, no twists, no poses laying on your stomach, and no ab work.

Um, that basically eliminates most poses!

Yoga is a great source of stress relief and joy in my life, and during the emotional roller coaster of TTC, I'd be sad to have to give up my practice for half of the month, each month.

Any thoughts?

ETA: The studio I attend is hot yoga (not as hot as Bikram but in the 90-98 degree range with varying levels of humidity. They don't offer a specifically pre-natal program, but I see pregnant students every once in awhile.)
