We vacation every summer in York - it's such a great, family-friendly beach town! My husband is very fond of the Guac-N-Roll (good Mexican and awesome margaritas) which is right across from Short Sands Beach. Short Sands is more kid-friendly and has brand new restrooms and there's tons of shops and some restaurants all in walking distance. Long Sands Beach will give you more space as it's spread out more but bathrooms and parking are limited. If you visit the Nubble Lighthouse, you can keep going up the hill to Brown's Ice Cream- sooooo good (cash only). The zoo is small but reasonably priced. I agree with going to Portsmouth - they have so many restaurants there. If you go up north a couple towns into Wells (about 20 min from York), they have a great park/playground we've gone to a few times and they have more ice cream at the Scoop Deck.

Yorks wild animal kingdom, nubble lighthouse and the beach. There is outlet shopping nearby in Kittery. downtown Portsmouth just over the bridge in NH is great. A quaint little town with tons of shopping and restaurants. They have plays at Prescott Park in the summer. The Goldenrod in york is fun, too. You can watch them make salt water taffy! You have tons of options!

We were planning to go a couple weeks ago for the first time but I got sick so we postponed. Would love to hear how you like it if you get a chance to update! We were planning to check out York's Wild Kingdom which I think is zoo/amusement park combo, the beach, downtown area, and lighthouse. Looks like a cute beach town! Have fun!

We live in Portland, so I dont know good details about York - but they're supposed to have a good zoo! If you think you'll stop through Portland at all I'd be happy to give suggestions. :)

@winniebee and @yoursilverlining might have some good ideas!

We are traveling to York, Maine in August with a 4 year old and a 4 month old. Any suggestions on things to do and places to eat? This will be our first time in Maine.
