Physical - I think I'm in better shape than DH. We both don't get sick much, but he has more ailments with his back, knees, what not while I have none.

Mental - I think we are both pretty exhausted and stressed with a toddler, a newborn and major pressure with his "career" this year that really affects us.

Neither my husband nor I have big struggles with mental health issues, but I have a sister with schizophrenia and my husband has a 1st cousin with schizophrenia, so there's always that scary possibility.

My husband and I both have depressing physical health genetics, although he looks physically from the outside (I look like I need to lose 20 lbs, which I do need). His family is rife with high blood pressure, cholesterol issues, heart disease and blood sugars. My family has all the worst types of cancers. So basically, I just hope we are both here by the time our kids are 20, nevermind past that. Knock on wood.

DH is overall in better health than I am, so I hope the kids take after him!

ETA: I just made it sound like my husbands genetics are going to be the ones that screw up our kids. I should state for the record that I'm screwing them up in plenty of other ways (and that my side of the family has to be very cautious around alcohol use because that's one area where we all tend to overindulge!)

My husband takes medication for anxiety and it's helped tremendously. I trend toward anxiety but am generally able to manage it fairly well.

We both seem to have strong immune systems and are rarely sick. I have an easier time with staying in shape and eating well. My husband struggles in this area. I suspect my ability to lose weight quickly, not gain unless I get totally out of control, maintain general fitness even when I'm not regularly working out- that will likely all leave me when I hit middle age. I enjoy being active so hopefully my lifestyle will prevent major change. My husband has some work to do in terms of finding ways to be more active/ eat healthier. His family members have also struggled with being overweight, my immediate family is generally quite healthy and active

I've been thinking a lot about my and Bee's mental health and physical health as the kids get older, because there's such a big genetic component to both!

MENTAL HEALTH: I think my son is going to have lifelong anxiety, based on some symptoms we've been seeing lately! I have been depressed a few times, but it's usually tied to a situational trigger. Bee has wrestled with anxiety and depression.

PHYSICAL HEALTH: The kids are in good physical health so far. Bee is in better shape than me, which is something I'm working on. Her immune system in general is stronger than mine. I hope the kids inherit her immune system, because mine isn't very good!

What is the mental and physical health of you and your SO?
