Usually in a restaurant I can't even tell if it's mine or not, so I just assume it's mine. If it's a nasty looking one I'll just be done eating. Im pretty sure I've never sent a meal back in my life and it takes a lot for me to complain about something. I think my mom (an embarrassing over complainer) totally turned me off from it, even when warranted!

Doesn't really bother me where I find it. I used to laugh when I worked at a restaurant and people would send food back because it had a hair in it. Most of the time we had bald kitchen guys or they had hats on and the hair looked just like the customer's...but we just replaced it anyway. Not saying this was always the case, but I used to wonder if people did it to get a free meal or if they really didn't think that it could be their own hair.

I can't keep eating at home or out. I threw up violently after finding my own damn hair in my food once when pregnant. It absolutely grosses me out. Not that it's logical. But it repulses me.

At home I don't really care. It's one of our hair for sure; I take it out and keep going. Haven't really found hair when we eat out... It's easy to tell that it's not mine since I have pretty much black hair; I'd probably just take it out and move on also...

Happens at home sometimes, and I just take it out and continue to eat. At a restaurant it's unacceptable, and I would send back the food.

At home: Meh
Out: Blech, I'm done!

Years ago I was eating out at a dive diner (not by choice, long story) with DH and a few of his friends. DH and his best friend kept snickering and giving each other the side eye while we ate...I found out much much later that there was a big ol long hair on my plate that DH had quickly swiped of my plate before I saw it. He knew I wouldn't eat and would bitch (um duh!) about it. Anyway, for years after that happened I would ask DH or his friend, "is there anything I need to know about my plate before I eat this?!"

@Shizaz: I'm with you. I watch Top Chef and Chopped and all that. There is much worse than hair going into my food! Sweat, ungloved hands...

@Shizaz: I'm the same, which is probably gross, but it hasn't happened that often and I'm weird I guess? I remove and carry on. If it looked like a sketchy hair I definitely wouldn't be cool with it.

At home it's crazy if we DON'T find a hair in our food, normally dog fur! At a restaurant, no way, it's going back!

I honestly don't care either way. Unless it was really long and extra gross, I wouldn't care at a restaurant. I know I'm in the minority though.

What do you do? Does it make a difference if you are at home vs a restaurant?

If I find a hair in my food at home it's like mine, LO's, or a cat hair so I'll just take it out and continue on, if I'm feeling really grossed out I'll just avoid that section of my plate. In a restaurant there is no way I'm ignoring it, but it's only happened a few times and my meal was replaced.
