She said she felt terrible because she and her husband desperately wanted to be pregnant and people would keep asking "what are you guys waiting for, have a baby already"<br /> All I can say is some people are really thoughtless and inconsiderate. Even if they dont "mean" to be rude, it truly is a tactless thing to ask because they dont know your situation. I know they don't MEAN to be rude, but when they're asking while staring at my stomach they don't know how hurtful it is. I don't know whether laughing it off like I have been, or letting them know that it's hurtful instead is the right way to respond. I worry that if I don't let them know that it's a rude question to ask, they will continue to feel free to ask any newlywed woman with a few extra pounds. </p> <p>My husband suggested with an overly cheerful: "No! I had a work retreat today and kept having to leave to use the restroom (because I have a small bladder and was drinking lots of water) and given that many people at work ask me daily if I'm pregnant, I'm sure they thought my frequent urination meant I was. That is hurtful and really rude for people to assume. I guess they are coming from a good place, but it's still not appropriate! Both times were extremely awkward because I am usually on the petite side, so I guess they automatically assume that my extra weight MUST be a baby????</p> <p>I find this question hurtful for so many reasons, beyond the physical implications. I wish I could respond, "Yes! We are!" but instead it reminds me that a baby is not happening for us right now and instead of a beautiful, living thing inside me, I'm left with a ice-cream-and-cookie-jigalo-belly.</p> <p>I go from sadness to anger when people ask me this. No one judges my husband if he gains a few extra pounds. No one feels that they can ask questions about HIS body. But my body, especially because I'm a newlywed, is fair game. </p> <p>Sigh. </p>
