So funny! I wanted to start this thread 2 wks ago when my DH slept 12 & 16 hours & trudged around in sweat pants for the 2 days he took off work due to a cold. I'd been sick for a week or so 2 weeks before him, so I think it was something different, but I was having a hard time not getting really annoyed with him for being such a wuss. However, he did get better quickly, so there's the silver lining.

There's a special place in Heaven for my husband ... he's such a hard worker all of the time. (I am generally a hard worker (work, home, parenting, etc.), but I'm a total wimp when I'm sick). We both take care of each other when we're sick - currently, we are both sick and LO is not. That's hard. :)

@looch: yea this is me.

I am ridiculous when sick, like the world must be ending hahaha. DH can have the flu and still go work a 12 hour shift. That being said he gets sick like 4-6 times a year. I get sick maybe once a year if even that. My immune system is on point. :silly:

@Mrs. Pickle: That sounds lovely!

I do encourage him to rest as much as possible... But then I can't shake the feeling that it's unfair that I do more because I can. Since LO was born, I've taken ONE day of rest. I'm still mulling over what would make me feel better about this situation and I haven't figured it out yet.

He actually gets over illnesses way faster than I do, and we are probably about even when it comes to stamina. But he's a total complainer and it drives me nuts when he gets sick! He also rarely takes the time to rest and get better, but he'll complain all the time. I'm a lot more stoic and it's just a personality clash. If anything he tells me I push myself too hard when sick.

DH is much more likely than I am to take an actual sick day and hibernate. You could spin that as me having more stamina, but in years of experience, it usually just means that my illnesses last much (much) longer than his do, since I never give my body a chance to heal. He's better in a few days after he sleeps all day. I will be miserable for weeks.

I've literally felt like death and still more or less functioned "normally". Isn't it sad?! There was only one time I had to call for help b/c I literally was dizzy and had chills and couldn't see straight.

My husband has more. I have asthma that gets bad, and I'm worse off if I try to power through a cold (which triggers my asthma). My last cold took like a week before I felt functional! But I was also pregnant during it. I wish I could function better.

@Truth Bombs: YES! This is my husband. He will whine and complain about being sick, but won't do anything about it except taking over the counter meds. There was one point over Christmas where he had a fever and was freezing where I literally got so sick of his complaining that I called the doctor on his behalf and got him in to see someone. Take care of yourself, dude! It's not hard!

I think we're about even. We also both try to step up and do more with the kids/at home when the other is sick so they can rest and get better quicker. There's only been a couple times that Hubs really was laid up and couldn't help out and it ended up that he had pneumonia!

Over the weekend, DH slept in, took multiple hours-long naps, and still struggled to play with our 27mo, even while I was there. I...don't...understand.

I would say we are about even in terms of physical stamina. What drives me nuts about my husband is that he will never go to the doctor or take steps to make himself feel better faster, he just wants to whine. But, he still continues to get everything done at work and at home when he's not feeling well, so it doesn't actually affect me that he won't go to the doctor.

I'd say we're about even. Overall, we both try to power through a cold. We take over the counter meds like they're candy and wash our hands a million times, and power right on through. There are times when a cold kicks one of our butts. Most recently, it was me. I was sick for a month straight, and I just got antibiotics last Friday. On Sunday, I was so worn out, that DH took the kids to the park so I could get an hour nap it. It was the most glorious hour of my life! I've done the same for him if he has a particularly bad cold. But generally, we both are pretty good at powering through since we've had the boys.

When I get a cold, I'm mostly fine powering through and going about my day. It's annoying and I'm tired, but I rarely need to change my plans or get coverage (I'm a SAHM). DH on the other hand, when he gets a cold... let's just say that it's hard to understand why he needs so much rest. I'm curious if this goes along gender lines, as my parents and some other couples I know are kind of the same way.

If there's a huge differential, how do you deal? It's a struggle for me every time.
