DS got so mad at me b/c I didn't let him walk the 10 steps from the front door of daycare to the car (b/c he was tantruming) that he screamed the entire way home. And once I got him out of the car at home, he started running down the driveway b/c he was going to walk back to school in order to walk those 10 steps. Oy.

My first LO never really tantrumed but I def got her share and more with my 2nd LO haha! Nothing TOO memorable but people are always amazed at how calm and non-nonchalant I am with her tantrums. Her favorite move is to throw herself on whatever floor/ground she's on in public, roll around, do "dirt" angels, and cry/scream. I literally pick her up, throw her over my shoulders and move on.

@skinnycow: Well.. DS was 4 when this happened. So I don’t think there’s a magic no tantrum age. But at this point they really are few and far between.

Oh my goodness, these are amazing! @skinnycow: right? Our DD was so calm and good for so long that I was concerned she's been possessed or something when this started. I needed the reassurance that they all do it!

I don't have any in particular that stand out but my 2.5 year old daughter is in peak tantrum stage right now. These stories are helping me feel like she's not a monster and I'm not a terrible parent! It gets better, right?!

We met my mom and aunt and Panera for lunch this summer. DS has the most epic meltdown I’ve ever seen out of him because his Asiago cheese “bagel didn’t have a hole.” He was crying and screaming so hard I had to take him outside. He was still so mad he would hit me out of frustration so I would put him down which made him scream/cry harder. I finally took him to the car, buckled him into his seat, and sat in the front seat ignoring him. It took him a good 10 minutes to calm down in the car. We finally went back inside and ate lunch. Think he was a bit hangry?! Oye. I still have a small moment of panic every time he wants an Asiago cheese bagel from Panera.

Definitely had to drag my kids' body through a checkout line because I was holding my 3 week old and she wouldn't move because I told her she couldn't push the buttons on the credit card machine because when I gave her the chance she was upset and flipping out about something else.

Also, this one was only bad/hilarious in my head- my daughter wanted a type of yogurt at trader joe's that I told her I wouldn't get her. I got her moved a little further away and was hanging out with her while she was upset. She then hit me and ran toward the yogurt, and an older guy kind of blocked her (Not in a threatening or mean way, he was really nice about it to both her and me). It diffused the situation enough that I was able to get her to pull herself together and move on.
HOWEVER- I know who the guy is because he was the much older, married guy my 20-something client (I"m a therapist) was having an affair with. He is in local politics, so I knew his name/face. Obviously he doesn't know me or that I know anything about him, but it was quite a ride inside my brain!

It wasn’t really a tantrum, but DD had a very memorable meltdown this summer. We had just arrived at the parking garage at the airport in Dubai and it was literally 117 degrees outside. We had something like 8 suitcases/bags and 2 car seats that we were trying to manoeuvre into the terminal. DD burst into loud crying, screaming “grandma never comes for my birthday!!! It’s not fair!!!” (Her birthday was months away). And this went on for at least 10 minutes and we couldn’t do anything since both of us had our hands full. When we arrived at check in she was all red, sweaty, and snotty.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: @Foodnerd81: I've totally done that too. In my case it makes her louder. Turns out she has more range than my car stereo...

O isn't much of a tantrum in public kid, she saves her behavior for at home and does a good job presenting really well in public. The other day we were leaving the pumpkin patch. The baby was tired, O was hungry, and they'd had a busy day. Baby started screaming in the car. So O started screaming at the top of her lungs, "STOP SCREAMING N!!! I CAN'T HEAR THE MUSIC! STOOOOOOPPPPP SCREAMING!!!" DW had to keep telling me to slow down because getting pulled over would make the whole trip even longer. It was rough.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I’ve totally tried to drown out the tantrum with music.

I forgot- at my LO’s end of the year carnival last year, she was getting over a stomach bug and still not eating totally normal. She had a bunch of treats so when she wanted to decorate a second cupcake I drew the line. Complete meltdown in front of her entire preschool, I had to carry her away still holding a full spoon of frosting. I just kept angry whispering “do NOT get that in my hair.” In hindsight she just wasn’t ready after being sick but I felt so bad that she had missed the end of school already.

About 3-4 weeks ago LO threw a tantrum in the daycare parking lot at pick up. When we leave we often go over a curb area that has the flagpole and filled with plants and has a dip to accommodate the wheelchairs. LO decides if we walk up and down the tall part of the curb (“big step up/ down”) or the low (“little step up/down”). So that day he wanted to go over it too many different times and too many different ways. It was hot and I told him enough. Then, a battle ensued getting him buckled into his car seat. It was bad, I had to corner him in the car and take a break. LOL On the way home he was crying and I tried to drown him out with instrumental music because I read somewhere to match the child’s sound. That annoyed him more than the curb. Finally, I turned the music off per his request and he stopped crying too.

My daughter got upset that I asked her to keep walking, toddler melted right on the welcome mat of the hotel we were walking into. The doors kept partially closing and then opening again. I had to pick her up like she was a rag doll, screaming all the while. We were checking in so there was no where to hide :bummed:

I think peak tantrum was around 2.5. I’d gone to the chiropractor with my 2.5 year old and 4 week old because my back was still messed up from the end of pregnancy. The office was up a flight of stairs in a gym and the baby was in the hefty infant car seat. On the way out the toddler wanted to climb up the outside of this ramp and I wouldn’t let her and it was total meltdown. Nothing could stop the tantrum. I finally had to carry her under one arm like a sack of potatoes, with the baby car seat on the other arm, messed up back, just kicking and screaming at the top of her lungs through a gym full of young 20 somethings just trying to exercise on their lunch break. A nice dad held the doors for me and offered to help me through the parking lot and into the car but there just wasn’t anything he could do.

Honestly though, my older daughter is a champion tantrum thrower. She is finally outgrowing it at 5.

I can't even count how many times I've had to carry DS out of a store because he started throwing a tantrum over something he wanted.

I had to leave an entire grocery cart behind because he was completely melting down. Thankfully the employees were able to roll it in the back and I was able to drop DS off at home with DH.

One time I was at the grocery store with both kids when DS2 started screaming in the checkout line because I took a box away from him and then DS1 started crying because I wouldn't get him a candy bar. The poor clerk look terrified (she was really young).

I don't go to the grocery store with kids anymore. Thank goodness for amazon fresh when DH is out of town!

What are your kids' greatest tantrum stories? Today DD spent 20 minutes on a city street corner screaming at me and flailing wildly because I had the nerve to pick her up to finish crossing the street before the light turned. She got so mad she pooped her pants! Give me stories in solidarity so I can remember that she's not a psychopath, she's three!
