We like Dr. Sears The Baby Book. We use it as a reference quite often.

I have no advice... just want to say good for you for reading before the baby comes! I was too obsessed with pregnancy and childbirth to think about the actual baby until she got here, and of course I have no time for reading :(

"Happiest Baby" is good, but honestly, if you just read a summary of it online, you'll learn just as much (I also hear that some recommend the DVD over the book for that reason). I highly recommend "Baby 411" -- it's pretty exhaustive, authoritative, and has a sense of humor. Another good one is "Heading Home with Your Newborn." I'm not a huge fan of the "What to Expect" books -- to me, they're a little alarmist/condescending.

I also recommend "Nursing Mother's Companion" if you plan to BF. and "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" when LO is a bit older and you want to read up on sleep.

I saw Mrs Marbles posted about The Happiest Baby on the Block. I'm also considering getting What to Expect the First Year. I know your feelings and I"m only 13 weeks!! I want to start learning about what things to expect when the baby is here. I can deal with my body but I worry about another human being!

I am 22 weeks along and feeling very very overwhelmed lately. Although I know you will NOT learn everything from a book.. reading things like Mrs. Bee's
http://www.hellobee.com/2011/09/26/new-mom-tips/
really helps calm me down a little bit.

I am looking into buying a used copy of The Happiest Baby on the Block. Do you have any other good book suggestions? How about any books for teaching your newborn / baby things like sign language and so on...

No book will prepare me for parenting but I would like to be as informed as possible if the resources are out there!
