This is really interesting! My parents are pretty Paleo (although they tend to eat mostly fruits and veggies with very little meat), and I was considering trying it out to lose some weight and get healthier.

I don't know if you have a Kindle, but I looked up that Well Fed book and it's free in the lending library! I'm going to check it out tonight.

(Thanks, @Revel!)

I would second the recommendation for Well Fed. It's a great cookbook. When not in the throws of first trimester nausea, I was cooking exclusively paleo and eating about 95% compliant, with some dairy. Most of my meals would just be meat/fish and veggies, but I would make some type of recipe, from Well Fed, or the internet, about once a week. The Bora bora fireballs in that book are insanely good. I couldn't find the recipe on her website but this looks pretty accurate: http://turtlesandtails.blogspot.com/2012/06/bora-bora-fireballs.html

Banana, Egg and nut butter pancakes are to die for. We can't have them anymore because we have decided we need to try eliminating egg. So sad I need to find an alternative.

We also found a turkey, bacon, sweet potato patty recipe that is delicious.

We do a lot of meatloaf and just cooked meat (fish, turkey, chicken) and veggies on the side.

PaleOMG.com is great, and I really liked the book "It Starts with Food" (www.whole9life.com). I'm not following the Whole30 completely, but reading it really helped me transition to a more paleo-style diet. The book "Well Fed" has great recipes to -- I haven't read it, but I have read the author's blog and use her mayo recipe a lot! (it's awesome for chicken salad).

I love The Primal Blueprint Quick and Easy Cookbook. Everything seriously takes like a half hour and they're all so good. I made one of my favorites last night.. combine 1/3 cup olive oil and 3 tbs butter in a pan til butter sizzles, turn off heat. Add 4 minced garlic cloves and zest from 2 lemons. In a baking pan, mix 2 cans of quartered artichoke hearts and 2 lbs of chicken, diced into 1-inch pieces. Sprinkle salt and pepper over the chicken/artichoke, then drizzle the oil/butter/garlic/lemon mixture in the pan til the chicken is all coated. Broil for 20-25 mins.

It does have a lot of fat but paleo folks aren't scared of fat ;) Plus it's 2 lbs of chicken + 2 cans of artichokes so that usually feeds me and DH for like 3 nights in a row.

We love soups and those are easy to make paleo! We also eat a lot of roasted chicken with veggies roasted underneath the bird, eggs, sweet potato fries, and salads. I think eating paleo is so much easier in terms of cooking because you just make a meat and a veggie and you are set!

@blackbird: There are also some tasty sweet potato pancake recipes that are paleo friendly. I think you use almond flour, sweet potato mash, an egg, and coconut milk. Pretty tasty. I used to make them for my DD when she was little and they were really popular. And sweet enough that you don't need syrup.

I'm doing a primal diet now (which I'm pretty sure is just paleo, only with dairy.) I've been eating a lot of cuts of meat with veggies on the side because I'm too lazy to make anything more complicated.

For breakfast, I scramble eggs with spinach and feta cheese. That's pretty much my favorite breakfast. Sometimes I have bacon with it on the weekends. http://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-artichoke-heart-kale-ri-142441 That one is a good breakfast if you're still eating cheese, too.

If you eat a lot of meat, you might still get some constipation issues, since it takes so long to break down. I kinda learned that the hard way when I started dropping the carbs and upping the protein. I think all the increased fat is supposed to help, though. But there's definitely a detox/withdrawal that happens. Most people I know describe it like a hangover that lasts for a week.

It's not like you can't have any carbs--you can have sweet potatoes! Which are delicious! I love them for breakfast. All baked up and warm, with cinnamon? Nice and comforting

@Rainbow Sprinkles: charlie is a very picky eater, and he increasingly gravitates towards carbs. he used to love broccoli and now it's hard to get him to eat vegetables other than cucumbers. i think going gluten-free may help his constipation issues, and help reset his palate so he's eating more nutritious food instead of craving the carb high.

olive is already close to paleo. she just eats such a wider variety of meats and veggies than charlie does.

mr bee would do it to be healthier and lose weight. i would do it to help with constipation and just because i have the most horrendous eating habits ever.

Scotch eggs, omg. they are so good. hard boil an egg, peel it, then wrap sausage around it, put them in a cast iron pan, and then throw the whole thing in the oven to get nice and crispy. I turn them about halfway through.

Oh, deviled eggs made with avocado instead of mayo is good, too (or just a little mayo. I'm not going to make my own mayo, ya know? Too hard). They're always bright green, which is kind of fun. Use lemon juice or it gets all brown and gross looking.
