@meredithNYC: I am a democrat and even I had to unfollow Bernie's page. It was just too much for me. I haven't liked Hilary or Bernie's page. I'll vote for whoever the democratic nominee is.

I don't unfriend, but I do unfollow. Prior to this campaign cycle, I usually unfollowed people who I considered extremely right wing. But this spring I had to unfollow a whole lot of Bernie supporters because the constant posting wore me out.

I have unfriended a lot of friends and extended family. I also hide posts that irritate me. I have noticed that my tolerance for dumb stuff on facebook has gotten much lower lately.

I unfollow them ALL. Facebook is a much nicer place for me these days. LOL.

I do believe it's important to hear, read and discuss views that are different from your own. It's healthy, it builds empathy, and makes you challenge your own beliefs. But, for me, Facebook is not the place for that kind of personal growth. For me, Facebook is where I go to veg and look at all my friends' cute babies.

If I haven't talked to or seen you a handful of times in the past year, you're getting defriended just because. Even quicker to hit the defriend button if you post offensive things that are counter to my own beliefs. If I have to see you, I'll probably just unfollow you unless you post really bigoted things regularly, then I'll unfriend you and let you know why!

I unfriended and blocked a couple family members for their bigoted and offensive posts. Sometimes you just have to to maintain your sanity!

I don't unfollow or unfriend usually. I like to see what the other side has to say-I feel like it's good to keep an eye on the full political spectrum.

I do a lot of unfollowing in election years! I'm very very understanding of and tolerant to differing opinions (as I have been her on HB) but some people who cross from "opinion sharing" to "preaching" or basically opinion bashing get unfollowed if I still see them regularly or Unfriended if they truly aren't s friend in real life anymore...

I don't let it get to me. Although I do find it disappointing when people take things to extremes to defend their beliefs and make it far too personal.
I feel my friends are pretty split with either one side or the other. I honestly don't have a majority that is leaning one way or another on the political events going on.
My time with the Military had brought me to some interesting and some not so pleasant places. For me, the beautiful thing about this country is your right to agree or disagree. Having the freedom to vote and VOICE your opinions in where you want to see this country go.
So agree or not. I try to always see the beauty in the ability of just that.

I unfollow rather than unfriend. I trimmed my list to just people I interact with regularly (not many from high school), and if it's a family member, I just unfollow them but remain their friend. It's a lot healthier for me (and in the case of my SIL, I don't start a family war because I dared to unfriend her).

I tend to unfollow certain people rather than unfriend them altogether.

I do wish there was a way to filter Facebook for just original posts and get rid of all the shares. Facebook is now what mass forwarding of messages used to be in email. I just want to keep in touch with people who aren't super close friends and see cute pictures of their families.

@matador84: I did change what I see on my facebook feed. If a friend of mine is a member or a fan of a group that I don't agree with, I click 'hide all posts from group/page'. It's been amazing. I hardly see that stuff anymore. I think a lot of times you see something that someone posts and you get angry and want to find something to use as a rebuttal (yeah, all very passive aggressive  ). Not seeing that on my feed has really increased my enjoyment in logging into facebook since I do use it to connect with my friends and family all over the world. I'm very selective in what I 'like' because I know almost everyone can see it.

I don't usually friend people I don't talk to on a pretty regular basis. I think I have 10 friend requests pending because I just don't feel the need to add these people. I do hide a lot of people from my feed who are generally political or even just post a lot. It kind of helps to streamline my feed for content id rather read.

You know I always tried to not unfriend people for their beliefs, but I'm at this point where I think I have people on my list that are acquaintances or friends of friends.

Up until recently, I always tried to let some friends say whatever they want and I could just read and ignore it. I'm changing my tune.

I recently had to unfriend my close friend's husband. Honestly, I'm not sure why I friended him years ago. It was probably when they were dating or when they got married and I wanted to know more about him. (I was never invited to their family-only small wedding.) I still consider her a good friend, though.

Yeah, simply put, I have some friends that are close and will almost always me my friend and I can put our differences aside. My friendship is more important than our differing beliefs. Other friends that don't fit this category are and will be gone.

For people like her husband, I don't need to be FB friends with him. It will probably be better for both of us. We've butt heads a couple times online. Other than the online disagreements, he brings nothing to the table friendship wise.

Anyone feeling this way? Or what are your rules for friends on social media (I guess in this situation, it would be facebook).

On the flip side, I do have high school friends that I wasn't close to in high school but have noticed we have a lot of similar beliefs. Though, back in high school, politics wasn't something I voiced my opinion about often.

I do need to trim my friends list down.
