I wore yoga pants and a frumpy long sleeve shirt--I probably looked like shit. Didn't care though because I was comfy :)

I knew that I wouldn't fit into any of my pre-pregnancy clothes and just brought maternity clothes. I didn't care what I looked like leaving the hospital since I was just going straight home with my little family.

A dress. After my c-section I couldn't wear pants for 2 weeks, and I had been on IV fluids for 5 days, so I was super swollen everywhere and no pants fit up my legs anyway. Plus all my lady bits hurt from the delivery (29 hours of labor and 1.5 hours of pushing) and having pants there would have been no fun--and it must be worse with a full vaginal delivery.

I was originally going to get a maxi dress from Michael Kors because they are super comfy and cute. However, DS had other plans and we had to last minute pack a bag and I didn't have a chance to get the maxi dress. I got it afterwards though. :).

@photojane:/@mrstilly:/@krsmall: Oh, please don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to be cute, was more curious what other moms found most comfortable! I've noticed there seems to be a split on the internet of yoga/lounge pants vs dresses. I can't imagine caring what I look like!

I work black yoga pants home. I also had a tank top under a long sleeve maternity shirt on. Maternity pants fit weird after DS was born. Maternity shirts worked for a while until my belly got smaller (about 2 weeks). Then I was pretty much wearing normal clothing, but things that had a forgiving fit or were a larger size.

I don't get the point of a special outfit to go home in. I just wanted to be comfortable and I wanted DS to be warm and comfortable. Also I wasn't into putting him in complicated outfits. He lived in sleep and plays and onesies/soft pants for the first 5 months. I think dresses would be awesome for the first weeks/months after birth because they tend to be forgiving as you lose weight and your shape returns back to normal (as much as it will anyway), but to go home, I would opt for comfort over style. Unless you are a dress person, yoga pants and a tank or tee seem sufficient.

Maternity yoga pants, tank, open sweater. It was perfect for mid may. I actually wore my maternity jeans for about 3 wks post birth - they fit better than during the end of pregnancy even hough the belly part was big -- and I only gained 30 lb in pregnancy. Luckily it was warm an I just started wearing jersey dresses!

Good luck - can't believe how close you are!!
