@regberadaisy: for babies that little, my pediatrician recommends small amounts of warm liquids (like apple juice - but like 10 ml at a time) to thin secretions and a bit of molasses or corn syrup to coat the throat or cut down on coughs.

@Mamaof2: thanks! She has been sleeping in her swing and I was going to make the transition right after Christmas. But because of her cough I've been keeping her in there until she gets better. :)

@regberadaisy: can you elevate her mattress? I have been dealing with an awful cough myself and laying flat makes it 100 times worse - If I keep myself elevated I cough a lot less!

@looch: just talked to a nurse at my pediatrician. And they don't recommend any kind of cough medication for infants and not even for older kids. She said it hasn't been proven that it works so they don't recommend it. So... I'm not planning on using it. I have a Friday sick appointment set up as a back up if she gets worse.

@regberadaisy: My pediatrician actually recommended Zarbees for my 11 month old (the baby agave based one). I also had my sister, a pharmacist, check out the ingredients and she said it was fine. Lots of sugar in it, but fine. I thought it helped thin out the mucus more than anything , which was helpful!

We gave it before nap times and bedtimes to soothe coughing. Hope it helps your LO, the coughing is the worst. :bummed:

I am curious as to what the pediatrician says, we've been directed not to give anything (even Zarbees) and my son's 4. But I can't deal with the colds this year, they seem like they are lasting so much longer.

@regberadaisy: same with J! He coughed until he threw up in the car last night :(
We use Zarbees, it might help a tiny bit with soothing so he can fall asleep but he'll still wake up very early coughing.

@T.H.O.U.: @BananaPancakes: hm. I guess worth a try at this point?

@brownie: yeah, I thought it was only for 2+ per the box but there's a baby version for 2m and older.

Going to call the ped this morning and see what they think re zarbees and this nighttime cough.

@regberadaisy: We've been using the agave based cough syrup for a while, since he's pretty much sick all the time at this point (yay first year of school!). It helps a little, and it tastes delicious. I think it works about as well as honey for cough, which is just a little. But it does seems to help with the scratchiness of his throat from coughing so much.

@brownie: they make a baby version that is agave based and safe under a year. I think after two months? We used it when he had a cough. It didn't help a ton.

Zarbees is typically honey based which is not recommended before 12 m. We use it regularly for our kid since he is over a year old.

My LO was recently going through a similar cough vomit cycle, and I tried a cough syrup - unfortunately the texture on his tongue seemed to have the exact same effect as the cough mucus on his tongue and he gagged and threw up! He does have a pretty sensitive gag reflex still at 12mo, so your LO might do better

Does anyone have experience with zarbees for baby? DD 2 (4m) and has had a bad cough for almost a week. It's wrecking her sleep so she isn't getting the rest she needs to get better. All my usual of eucalyptus oil in cool mist humidifier, steam to break up congestion / runny nose, nose frida, vicks on feet, etc are helping. But tonight she coughed so hard she threw up ALL over both of us.

Wondering if it's effective enough to keep on standby. Or any other tricks?
