@ShootingStar: Yeah, what I've read is sunscreen first, then bug spray, then just keep reapplying sunscreen as needed. Only reapply bug spray at the recommended interval. Sawyer lasts for 8 hours. So we'll do sunscreen and bug spray, then reapply sunscreen every 1.5 hours, and bug spray 8 hours later as needed.

@ShootingStar: I've read to put sunscreen first, then bug spray. The Sawyer Picaridin that @littlebug: mentioned is one of the bug repellents recommended to use against Zika, and they suggest sunscreen first!

@littlebug: We're taking a Disney Cruise in February with the exact same ages! I'm not so worried about the cruise, but we will be in Puerto Rico for 3 days before it. How will you use the bug repellent in conjunction with sunscreen?

We're taking a Disney cruise in November with a 4yo and an 18mo. I'll just be using lots of bug spray/wipes on them. Getting the Sawyer or Natrapel wipes with picaridin rather than something like Off. We started using Sawyer spray last year and it works really well. Even my husband, who is a mosquito magnet, doesn't get bites when he uses it.

I heard this on NPR this morning, too -- definitely something we'll be thinking about when planning vacations.

@babypugs: We also have a ton of mosquitos, blech. Makes me less interested in spending a lot of time outdoors :-/ As does the heat, haha.

My friend suggested these wipes -- a lot easier to apply on little ones than spray! https://www.amazon.com/Cutter-Family-Repellent-Mosquito-HG-95838/dp/B0030EK6HU

Scary! I live in an area with a lot of mosquitoes (although no reports of Zika at this time) and have a five month old. Technically it is safe to use bug spray at that age, but I hate it---guess I'll be getting over that and lathering her up.

I just saw this and thought I'd share since I know a lot of us wonder about Zika and travel:

http://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2017/06/12/532083664/is-zika-dangerous-for-kids-probably-depends-on-the-age?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=npr&utm_term=nprnews&utm_content=20170612

Tldr version: they don't have much info about how Zika affects children but caution against traveling to affected regions with kids under 2
