Thanks ladies for all your great answers! @jedeve - interesting article - I hadn't come across that one. Thanks! @iced-tea - thanks for the heads up on the staining  @mrsbells - I think I'll probably do a bunch of staying indoors too - which wont be hard with the Houston heat and humidity! @chillybear - I'll have to check that one out.

@sydsun: I just spoke to my OB about this yesterday she advised to use any with Deet but especially the higher concentrations. I have bought off deep woods which I believe has 25% deet. I havent actually started using it yet because there are so many warnings and so far i havent been outdoors alot.

We are TTC and have been using off deep woods dry (25% deet). I might buy something else because this puts white marks on my clothing and things my skin touches (like the leather in my car), plus smells strong. I'd like to hear what other people like using.

If you are concerned about DEET, the CDC also recommends lemon eucalyptus. It's right on par with DEET. Here is a good comparison of sprays: http://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2016/01/30/464740275/whats-the-best-way-to-keep-mosquitoes-from-biting

Has anyone been given a specific recommendation for a repellent from your Doctor? From what I can tell its safer for pregnant women to use DEET (despite it potentially passing through the placenta) than risk the complications of gettting Zika.

I'm specifically interested in the percentage of DEET your Dr recommends.

The CDC recommends at least 20% DEET (http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/avoid-bug-bites) but you can get products with as much as 98.1% DEET (https://www.epa.gov/insect-repellents/find-insect-repellent-right-you).

From CDC "In general, higher percentages of the active ingredient provide longer-lasting protection. However, this increase in protection time maximizes at about 50% DEET."

Would love your thoughts - I'm starting to panic about travelling to Texas after local cases in Florida.

Thanks so much!
