I had a 4 day wait at one point, ugh! The advice I was given was take the pills, but also eat lots of fruit, and drink plenty of warm drinks. Apparently warm teas and what not help keep things soft.

I was on Zofran for nearly 18 weeks. I used Colace as a stool softener because the constipation was bothersome, but I thought it was better than the hyperemesis that I was dealing with everyday!

@tororojo: It's HORRIBLE. Worse than after my last surgery, which was the worst I thought it could get. Lots of crying, no lie.

Hope skipping the zofran works for you! I definitely had less problems when I didn't take it.

I went 7 days and was in massive amounts of pain, no way I was going much longer than that without some kind of intervention!

@laylabelle: WEEKS?! This horrifies me. I finally went a little while ago (didn't take the Zofran this morning, that may have helped) and it was pretty intense, and that was only after 2.5 days. I can't imagine not going for weeks...you have my respect.

I took zofran infrequently during my first trimester but suffered constipation. Diet changes and increased water didn't help so I had to go the stool softener/miralax route (under direction of my OB). Second trimester wasn't bad and water/diet kept me on track. However, now that I'm in my third trimester the issue has resurfaced thanks to my need for an additional iron supplement; again diet/water didn't help so I just started the stool softeners again (also under OB direction) but still have intermittent problems.

@jessiejo17: Ugh, me too!! The pushing, crying, yelling....I told my husband I'd be a pro when it came time to deliver. ;) (I was kidding, of course)

I've had HORRIBLE issues with constipation with this pregnancy in general and the zofran definitely made it worse! Weeks is right, in my case. Stool softeners, fruit, fiber supplements just didn't work for me. My doctor told me Miralax is fine, and thankfully, it's working!!

I've started taking the gummie fiber supplements from Target and have found that they help me stay on track.

@jessiejo17: Yelling, now that's one tactic I have yet to try!

Thanks for the tips, ladies. I have been guzzling water and started having green smoothies again to get more fruits/veggies into my system. I may up my Raisin Bran intake or get a latte if needed. I'm gonna do everything I can to avoid a stool softener but it may come to that! At least I'm not the only one...

Definitely ask your doctor about a stool softener. Also, Fiber One bars are super good; a Fiber One bar and a cup of coffee in the morning helped me. :)

OH yes, this was the WORST part of my pregnancy, was the constipation, mostly from taking Zofran. I tried all the natural ways (fruits/fiber/ect.) however it came down to the fact that I was in a ton of pain, so my doctor told me to take a stoll softener and Miralax. The first time the Miralax kicked in worked like a charm.

Also, seems strange (and probably TMI) but I really had to push and yelling seemed to help release some of the pressure. It gets better for sure!

I tried eating more fruits and fiber, but that wasn't enough to get me "going" again. OB ok'd and recommended taking peri-Colase. It's a little pricey, but worked like a charm! I only had to take it 1x per day. It's a OTC drug. Good luck!

I finally caved in and got Zofran after a miserable weekend of puking up dinner (and also, puking on an empty stomach...gross). I haven't gagged or thrown up since I started taking it, but I also haven't used the restroom since before my first pill. This isn't an urgent problem yet, but I've read horror stories online about people not pooping for weeks so I would love any words of wisdom! If you've taken Zofran or something similar, how did you keep things going in the right direction while you were taking it?
