I took lupron for 6 months to freeze my cycle after my laps. It made me moody sometimes (but hey, so does my period) and it threw me into menopause. I would have hot flashes and wake up with my clothes across the room. My roommate (i was in a sorority so we shared a bunk) thought it was hilarious :) Good luck!

I took Lupron pre-IVF, and it gave me headaches, but no real side effects other than that. Good luck!

@Aqualov: Just want to wish you luck! I had a major surgery, an abdominal myomectomy to remove a dozen fibroids back in 2010 after they were discovered during a miscarriage. Lupron is sometimes used to shrink them for a few months before surgery, but my RE said it wasn't needed even though four of my fibroids were HUGE. (softball and baseball size) I remember researching Lupron at the time and was scared of the side effects. I know it stinks, but it sounds necessary and hopefully as posted above, you won't have any side effects! :) I took Lupron before my 1st IVF cycle which was cancelled on Day 4 and remember having the crying spells. Can't remember any other side effects. Definitely take the other med to try to combat any side effects you may have. I wish you all the best and hope you can get rid of the endo so you can move on to ttc soon!! :)

@Leialou: That's good to know, thanks. I'm glad not everyone is miserable on it:)

@spaniellove: Thanks. My doc wants to use Zoladex, which is newer but very similar to Lupron because the serious side effects are less, it still has the annoying menopause-like though ones apparently. I'm hoping my insurance will cover the Zoladex and the 'add-back', as my doctor referred to it, to counteract some of the side effects.

I'm so sorry you're going through all this...and that you have to take Lupron on top of it. I only took one dose as part of an experimental protocol my RE was using and hope not to use it again. In my case, I had a lot of concerns about the timing of the injection as it was during the 2WW but it also plunged me into a depressive episode. If your doctor is offering something to counteract the side effects I might consider that.

Wow, you've certainly been through a lot! I've taken Lupron for IVF cycles three times now. I take the Lupron by itself for about 2 weeks each time. I've never had any side effects from it.

Short verison: I just found out that I’m going to need to take Zoladex for 6 months to supress my Endometriosis before haivng another laproscopy. Does anyone have any experience with this drug? I’ve heard horror stories, and I’d like hear some personal experiences from folks who have taken it.

Long version: I was diagnosed with Endometriosis (Stage 1/2) by laproscopy in January 2013 when my pain became so bad I couldn’t walk. I felt better until I went of BC pills to TTC in July 2013. Since going off BC my pain had been increasing motnhy, and we had no luck TTC for 12 cycles. I had a laproscopy a few weeks ago to see if the Endo had reoccured, and remove it if it had, reducing my pain again and increasing our chances TTC. I just got back from my 2 week post-surgery doctor’s appointment and found out that my Endo has become severe. I now have Stage 3 maybe even 4. It covered my ureter from kidney to bladder, it was all over my uterus, ovaries, tubes, bladder, kidney, and my cul de sac area was full of it. It was basically everywhere. My doc sent in samples from one of my ovaries, my ureter and both uterosacral ligaments, and all 4 came back positive for Endo. Awesome.

My doctor removed most of the Endo during surgery (he told us he got about 95%), but due to how extensive it was (and the fact that he was doing an excision, so after awhile the bleeding reduces visualization of the smaller Endo lesions) he wasn’t able to get it all. He thinks my best chance at TTC and being pain free is another surgery. Before having the surgery he wants to supress my Endo down using Zoladex (Lupron) for six months. This will supress the Endo and thin my uterine lining so he has a better chance at getting all of the rest of it during the next surgery. He wants to cure me, not just get most of it, which is great.

The bad part is that I have to wait 6 months to TTC again (I’m 32, my DH is almost 39) and use a drug that basically puts me into menopause during this time, then have ANOTHER surgery. I’ve heard horror stories about the side effects of this drug. He said that he can give me mild estrogen replacement to reduce side effects if I have bad ones, but still- I had really hoped this surgery would be enough. I trust my doctor and the research backs what he says, but I’m sad, and scared of taking this drug. Plus I’m gonna be a raging B for a few months, DH is excited lol.

Has anyone used Zoladex before? What was your experience? I’d like to know what to expect for the next 6 months.
