We got our first zoo membership when my daughter was still a baby. At that age, it was more for me to have a fun place to get out and get some exercise, but she got into it pretty quickly. When DS was a baby, I got a zoo membership (he was free) and I went all the time...for about 2 years. He liked looking at the animals (I did, too!) and it was a nice way for me to take a walk regularly. The caveat is that I'm not sure she really cares all that much about the animals yet (at 13.5 months). Although she enjoyed it at a year, she definitely got more out of it at 18 months. It's totally worth it. It's more for us than her...it's nice to be able to get out of the house and walk around there. My LO does stare at the animals, though. My older daughter liked it, too, but not quite as much. My youngest is obsessed and constantly talks about the zoo and wanting to go and what she has seen there. We don't feel rushed to see the exhibits so the time spent is much more relaxed. Our membership also allows for discounts on food (though we usually go in between meals or bring snacks) but it's a nice perk.</p> <p>LO is starting to recognize some of the animals so it's nice way to engage her in talking/mimicking animal sounds.. Do people with 1 to 2 year olds think this is something he'd enjoy or should I hold off on this to next year in the 2 to 3 range? We live 20 minutes from the zoo and I think it would be a nice change of pace to walk around there on week days when it isn't too crowded, I'm just not sure if he'll be excited about animals in that age range. </p> <p>He does love the dog and cat though if that is any indication! </p>
