The other thread that was bumped this morning about LO's and dentists made me curious. So, as my title says, when did you first take LO to the dentist?

LO is 18 months, and we haven't taken him yet. Following this thread to see what the norm is!

We just took him last month at 22.5 months. Everything looked good. And we learned that cavities are contagious, which was news to me!

No LOs in our household yet, but I work for an agency that provides parenting education. You can actually take the little babes when they're only a year old! Dental caries are something crazy like the #1 reason kids miss school....and the earlier you can get them used to taking care of their teeth, the better.

15 months. He just turned two and I need to call and make another appointment.

We took her for the first time at 15 months. Her next appointment is scheduled for September (21 months)

My DD is 11 months so I was thinking maybe between 18-24 months. However, I have an almost 15 month old niece with bad breath and wanted to suggest to her parents to bring her to the dentist to check for cavities.

We went at a little over a one year old... I asked around here to see what the norm was... most people will not say one year!
But we were paying for dental insurance for LO so we thought why not.
We have been going every 6 months since...
I asked my dentist what is the norm... She said it really depends on the parents but she said she has seen kids with just one tooth (aka parents bought them in when their first tooth showed up). She said anywhere between 1-3 years old is fine but if there is a history of bad teeth she would recommend them coming in earlier than later.

We took her at 13 months! Our ped recommended we take her in at 1 year (she has 4 teeth) and we have dental insurance and the first visit was free anyway so....we went.
It was a lot of fun. LO like chomping on her toothbrush.
We are supposed to go every 6 months from here on out.

@coopsmama: Also wanted to highly suggest a pediatric dentist - they are amazing!! Both my kids (3 and 5) are challenging at the dentist/doctors and the dental technician is and dentist are SOOOO patient and managed to somehow get x-rays from both of them last month!!!!

We took her at 11 months, she had 7 teeth. I think it was a good time to take her, she did pretty well and it was a good experience overall. And we got good advice for brushing her teeth and such at home.

Our ped recommended at 2 yrs. I've heard a few others say 1 year, but most of my friends go between 2-2.5 yrs it seems. We'll likely go when he turns 2 later this summer.

I'm so curious about this as well. I have a dentist appointment for myself on Thursday and plan to ask what they recommend.
My LO is almost 1, has two teeth fully in, and two more coming in. I think he would HATE the dentist experience at this age (lot's of stranger anxiety)

I haven't gone yet at 15.5 months adjusted. I thought I was supposed to go at a year (and 8 teeth), but my Ped says she likes to have kids wait unless she sees problems so that it can be a positive experience.

i am planning to take him at 21 months. i might have waited longer, but that time frame will be easy for me to get a couple of hours off work and take him.

B went at 2 and he was pretty good about opening his mouth, letting them floss, getting fluoride, etc.
E went at 12 months and again at 18 months, so far she's just let them look in her mouth but they haven't been able to do anything at this point because she won't tolerate more than that.

@Mrs Green Grass: ugh, I wish my LO's ped suggested that. She wants all her patients to see a dentist by 12 months but I think E was traumatized from the last two dental visits

DS was 3 when he first went. M will be younger...probably about 18 months.

21 months and I thought he would be traumatized but it actually went well. A little brushing and some fluoride and that was it! It took longer to set up his information and new patient chart than the actual exam.

She's nearly 16 months and hasn't gone yet. My work benefits are changing right now, so I'll add her and my husband to my benefits and she'll go once we get this all straightened out.
