So this is day 6 of daycare. When I went to pick up my daughter, she was in an exersaucer. My daughter who just turned 3 months on Sunday. She does have excellent head control but in no way can she sit by herself; and her head still bobbles a bit when she gets tired.. Her feet couldn't touch, she was propped up so that she was leaning forward, without a towel or cushion behind her. It was like she was doing tummy time in an upright position.
I googled that model and it says it's for four months and older.
I'm already unhappy with this daycare, but I didn't have any specific reasons - just a gut feeling.
Am I overreacting? Is this normal and she actually is ready for that ?

First off: Unsupported dangling for prolonged periods of time while hanging out in the bottom of their little pelvic bones isn't good. Even with my older infant in the exersaicer, I placed folded blankets under her feet for some weight bearing.
Secondly: Id be pissed if this was my daycare

Nope nope nope! I would say something both to the director and to the teachers. That toy is not even remotely developmentally appropriate for a 3 month old infant!

I'm not comfortable with "baby containers" at daycare at an age but if they are there they need to be used appropriately! Major safety concern.

I definitely do not think that 3 months is old enough for something like that. I do not think that you are overreacting at all. I am a big believer in trusting your gut feelings.

@jennlin821: yikes my son was six months before he tired on. I would absolutely bring this up.

My kids both loved jumping a ton so I started them in our jumparoo around 3 months. But I supported their feet, I sat right in front of them, and it only lasted about 5-10 mins. It's not appropriate as a baby container at that age and I wouldn't be comfortable with daycare letting them just hang out in there that young.

Three months is too young for a child to essentially dangle in a baby holder. When we put our son in an exersaucer it was after he was crawling, sitting up well, and supporting his own neck. We had to fold blankets under his feet, but we always checked to make sure they were in place as a floor.

Ironically, I picked her up right after I had been checking out another daycare!
I’m sort of glad something like this happened, because I have a concrete reason to move her.
There were other signs as well, she had a horrible contact rash from something there ( I thought it was ringworm it looked so bad!), she was getting a bald spot on the back of her head from laying down too much, and her face was always dirty – like the mat the babies lay on wasn’t clean. Then when my husband dropped her off yesterday, she gave him a terrible look as if to say “Don’t leave me here!”I do worry about her in daycare anyways – she is extremely mild tempered (very smile-y!) and therefore only cries when something is seriously wrong. She doesn’t cry when she is tired, she just gets sort of glassy-eyed and quiet; daycare was absolutely missing her nap queues and keeping her awake for up to 2.5 hours! Which then destroyed the rest of our day and has completely screwed up her sleep.
I know I should always follow my gut, thank you all for confirming my new mama instincts.

@jennlin821: she is super cute!! Her mild temperament reminds me of my little guy. He was so chill and still is when he started daycare at 3.5 months. He sucked his fingers and basically self-soothed instead of cry like may of the other babies when something was wrong/ uncomfortable. I kept sharing with his teachers how his likes and dislikes, what I noticed about him to make sure he got the attention he needed.
Good riddance to that old place!

Hey everyone, here is a quick update:
When I went to pick up my daughter on Friday, she was napping face down on a boppy pillow. Needless to say, she didn't go back on Monday.
Its created some problems for me at work, as I can't find another full-time daycare right now, so we are shuttling between two part-time places. However, I have a much better feeling about both of these places. I told the daycare that I expect a full refund, as in the 10 days she attended, there were 4 incidences.

@jennlin821: Good grief. I would be writing a review online somewhere warning other moms. Those aren't just bad-fit issues, those are safety hazards.

I'm sorry for the impact this is having on work, but I am so happy you trusted your gut. As others have mentioned, I would report this to your state. I would also share about it on Nextdoor.com and Yelp (or any related sites if they're on there).

Please, please report them. If they are putting babies to sleep on their stomachs, they are putting babies at risk of death. The other parents deserve to know how much danger they are in.

@PawPrints: I completely agree, you should report them to the state. There are a lot of red flags and potential violations there. If there's a website or anything like that, I'd write up a review as well. Glad you're feeling better, it's so hard to leave kids in any care, but worrying about the quality is awful. Love to you!
