Hmm...normally I think potty training is better if you just go for it--and once the diapers are gone, they're gone.

But in your case, being 37 weeks pregnant.......I would wait 4 months and try again. My ped said never make a big transition (big bed, take away paci, potty train) 3 months before or after another baby. I was kind of ready to potty train my oldest when she was 2, but based on that advice I waited until LO2 was 3.5 months old and potty trained LO1 when she was just under 2.5.

When you are ready to try again, know that it's totally normal for them to have a ton of accidents at first. I read some people's experiences here on HB where their little had 8-10 accidents on the first day. So we rolled up our rugs and expected about 10 accidents, and were pleasantly surprised when we only had 4 accidents on day 1. It's just part of the learning process for them. It worked well for us to use the small potty at first--so I didn't have to take LO to the potty, I brought the potty to her. I kept the potty nearby all day long, we didn't leave the house, and she was bottomless. When she would start to pee down her legs, I would whisk the potty under her until she started to get that pee went in the potty. We had 4 accidents day 1, 2 accidents on day 2, and 1 accident on day 3,4, and 5 (all when I was busy with the baby and not paying attention). And then no accidents for weeks.

Try not to make them sit on the potty---it can turn into a power struggle. Just let them pee and you watch them for signs and get the potty under them, wherever they are.

I was in the same boat last year. We tried again s few months after baby and she was still not having it. My dr said it was a control/power issue and not to force it. She finally trained this summer at 3.5. It was like a lightbulb went off and she never looked back.

I would also wait. Especially with the baby coming. Try again this summer!

If you wait I would wait completely. No talking about the potty or reading potty books or anything for at least two months. If LO initiates it, fine, but not a peep from the adults. Otherwise you'll create a long drawn out power struggle.
