Are the 3D-4D elective ultrasounds worth it (and the extra costs)? There is a cute one right in the building that I work in. My fiancée thinks we should pass.
I'm 30 weeks and have never seen the baby in 3D, only the standard checkups. I've been back and forth about it so I wanted to see what you mamas thought.

I might be in the minority, but I never paid for elective ultrasounds. I didn't think it was necessary. However, we did get 4D pictures at our anatomy scan, so I had some pictures that were not considered elective.

I probably wouldn't pay for it. They hooked me up to one of those machines when I was about 28 weeks, and if the baby is in the wrong position, the pics don't even turn out good!

My regular ob printed me some 3D pics at my 32 week scan and they were NOT cute. I've seen other people's that look really sweet and realistic but mine was just blobby (but my baby was cute IRL!)

We did an elective scan because my anatomy scan report didn't include gender and the tech didn't tell us in person either. The tech briefly switched to 3d even though we didn't pay for, or want that. I didn't get to see too much and DH didn't like it at all so he looked away.
I wouldn't do it. At 30 weeks, you'll be meeting baby soon. Use the money for some mommy pampering!

I personally wouldn't pay extra for it. I am pregnant with my third baby and the ultrasound techs have always switched over to 4D and given me a few pictures during regular ultrasounds. I got a sweet 4D picture yesterday of our baby girl sucking her thumb.

We decided not to do it but at our last US (32 weeks) DH asked if she could quickly switch to 4D and she did! She got an awesome shot of little ones face and printed it out for us. It was quick but so sweet to see. That's all I wanted anyway.

We didn't do it... to each their own, but I find the 3D pictures to be creepy! I'm with@getjazzy... use the money for some pampering! Or maybe a nice date night!

I'm cheap and find the 3D pictures creepy, so we won't be doing it! But I know a couple friends who did and thought it was nice. Just personal preference.

I agree with PP's...I think they're a tad on the creepy side! Our tech switched to 3D at our 12 week scan without telling us and it was awful!! At 12 weeks they still look a bit alienish. After that appointment we specifically asked the tech's not to do the 3D. So I would never pay for it voluntarily!

We did with both boys, and loved the experience! Worth every penny to me, the images looked just like them when they were born, I had them done right at 30 weeks. They made sure to remind me to be very well hydrated beforehand so the images would show up better.

I wouldn't pay extra for it, but I did get some 3-D pics at my 20-week ultrasound. My husband and I can tell that our kiddo looks just like my husband, based on some of them. It's crazy!
