@gotkimchi: @cake2017: thanks! I’m not overly worried, my husband was actually more scared. And then he found several resources that said to always call the doc for a raspy/hoarse voice. So, I’m glad I did and we can hopefully rest easily tonight. So far he seems totally fine in his sleep.

@bees_knees: @Ajsmommy: So after 2 more days of the raspy voice and a marked difference in how he’s feeding (fussing and crying and pulling off of the bottle, arching, batting) I took him to the ped yesterday. Mostly because we are going away next week and I don’t want to deal with issues while we’re gone. And he’s also very snotty (we’re able to suck a lot out a few times a day) so dh was a little more worried that it was a virus.
Anyway, we didn’t see my regular Ped, but she did say it could potentially be reflux. But since he is still feeding ok (despite it being a pain in the ass) and has great weight gain and wet diapers she isn’t ready to prescribe. I know my normal Ped who I have a long and great relationship will prescribe if I ask (she knows I’m not an alarmist) so I’m going to give it a few days and then call her if it doesn’t improve or worsens.

@mrsbubbletea: Def not a cold, Ped listened to his breathing and chest and she said babies would have a runny nose with a cold, it wouldn’t be congestion alone. No coughing either. We’re pretty confident that it’s silent reflux, which can cause raspy voice and congestion.

And just realized when I say raspy, I don’t mean like rattling/mucousy. I mean it sounds like he’s losing his voice, like after you yell all night at a concert or something.

@mrsbubbletea: Well it’s hard to say for certain. I had PPA so I was convinced he did. So my Ped did put him on Zantac because I pretty much insisted and she said it couldn’t hurt.
The thing is, I knew nothing about infant sleep at the time and I was keeping him awake wayyyy too long. I resolved this and he started Zantac at the same time. So I have no idea if he got calmer and happier because of better sleep habits or Zantac. Or both. Haha.
But yeah, his health records would indicate reflux with Zantac treatment.

Fortunately I don’t have PPA this time and This baby has been on a better sleep schedule from the start so I know that his discomfort/fussiness isn’t from being overtired. So I’m much more confident that it’s reflux after talking to the Ped in the office yesterday. I just can’t decide if I want to press for meds or wait it out a bit.
