@Raindrop: Yes, I knew as soon as he put it together I'd have to face the music. Now I'm a little upset with him for how insensitively he dealt with it. Whatever..

@Autumnmama79: Sorry you're upset about him being insensitive! I guess I know how that feels because I get anxious about some things and my husband usually has to kick me in the butt (figuratively) sometimes to get me out of my funk. I'm usually upset right after he does it but in the long run it was good that he does that. Again good luck!

@Raindrop: he means well, but without any regard whatsoever of how I might be feeling emotionally was just a bit harsh. Men, sheesh.

I just took a HPT and got a BFP, I wanted to be sure before I went for the blood work. The appt it at 230 today. My question is, I am anxious now to get on the progesterone and baby aspirin ASAP. It was never something the dr said I might need but I'm willing to try whatever measures possible. If I can't get an appt with my OB today, and I just go to a walk-in clinic, what exactly am I asking for in terms of p and baby aspirin? Dosages, etc...

@Autumnmama79: Congratulations! I know it's hard to see a after loss. One day at a time. Today, you are pregnant.

@Autumnmama79: progesterone depends on your situation. And requires a prescription (maybe ask them to test your progesterone) but the baby aspirin can't ever hurt per my doctor. Just go to Walgreens and buy "low dose aspirin" (not in baby section and it doesn't say baby) and take 1 per day. 81 mg. I will post a pic of what it looks like. My doctor had me take aspirin until 12 weeks and progesterone (crinone) until 10 weeks.

@Autumnmama79: congrats! When they do bloodwork they will check your progesterone. If low they can put you on progesterone.

@simplyfelicity: Just spoke to the nurse at fertility clinic and she said that the OB does not recommend or support the use of p or baby aspirin. I've only seen her once as was just referred there after my second loss. Now what??

@Autumnmama79: Congrats - I hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months ahead of you. You can't get progestrone without a prescription, but you can buy baby aspirin almost anywhere. Just look for "low dose" aspirin (usually 81mg) right next to the regular aspirin. Bayer makes it, along with lots of generic and in-house options (http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/walgreens-low-dose-81-mg-aspirin-safety-coated-tablets/ID=prod3178751-product). Take one a day - you can start today!

@Autumnmama79: Just saw your update - if I were you, I'd go on baby aspirin anyway. There's no harm, and my reproductive endocrinologist put every woman who walked through the doors on it. You also might want to call an RE's office about the progesterone - they will have a better understand of recurrent m/c and be more progressive.

    hostess / papaya / 10219 posts

@Autumnmama79: I would take it anyway. It can't hurt. Progesterone isn't usually necessary anyway unless your progesterone is low. Weird doctor. This is an RE?!

@ms.line: Thanks, and can you tell me the function of the baby aspirin in early pg?

  22. BandDmommy

@Autumnmama79: you can still do baby aspirin without doctor approval

  23. BandDmommy

@Autumnmama79: progesterone isn't a must unless you are low. I take progesterone but because I have history of pre term labor. It has to be OB prescribed.

  24. ms.line

    pear / 1770 posts

@Autumnmama79: It reduces inflammation and can help with blood clotting disorders that may result in m/c.

@ms.line: I'm not sure that we have RE's here in Canada, we have fertility clinics staffed with OB's. This one in particular is part of the women's hospital and specifically for recurrent pregnancy loss. But I did visit another (private) one, maybe I'll give them a call instead.

@Autumnmama79: REs are OBs with additional fertility-specific training. I'm sure the system may be quite different in Canada - it's just discouraging your OB is a "specialist" but doesn't want to pursue interventions... women with recurrent pg loss need extra TLC! Will they even agree to test your progesterone?

  28. Autumnmama79

    pear / 1703 posts

@snowjewelz: Thank you. I think that I will take the aspirin anyways. With the last two pregnancies - and now - I've had swelling and pain in my lower legs, maybe its related to the loss and maybe the aspirin will help. Can't hurt I suppose right?

WTH?? I just called the private fertility clinic and the nurse said they won't test for progesterone levels either! She said,"the doctor won't order those tests bc its his belief that if you were able to get pg naturally, then your body must be making enough progesterone."

    This feels frustrating.

Do you have a PCP you can call and tell your concerns to?

Also, try the "find a consultant" search in the left side of this page http://www.fertilitycare.org/. They are major supporters of progesterone support and natural fertility methods.

@Autumnmama79: I hope you find an Ob you click with soon.

I have really bad anxiety and one thing I've found helpful has been guided meditation podcasts. Maybe they'd be helpful while you're sorting through stuff with your DH, OB and your BFP news? It's rough since there's so little about this that you can control and that sucks.

@Autumnmama79: Congratuations! I know every practice has their own beliefs, but I would maybe consult with your past doctor to see their thoughts on progesterone, yes you can get pregnant but staying pregnant is the key here (my sister had 3 MCs and the fourth they put her on progesterone and she went full term.)

  36. Autumnmama79

    pear / 1703 posts

@akcoffeebean: I hope so too. It seems weird that they won't even test for it. What's the harm in that? Thanks for the rec on the meditation, that sounds like something I would enjoy. Do you have a link to share?

@LuLu Mom: thank you. I think my next step needs to be calling my family doctor and begging him for the p test.

@Autumnmama79: I am in Canada as well (ON) and I went to MS for fertility treatments. They are definitely RE's here, OB training is the background and then RE is the specialty they pursue. Your family doctor can test for Progesterone levels but you should call the clinic back and ask to speak to the doctor if he/she was the one that mentioned Progesterone and Baby asprin support for your next pregnancy

I planned to take baby aspirin after my second m/c, but it's actually not recommended if you don't have a blood clotting issue. It can cause issues, though I don't remember what exactly (it's been a couple years).
