My LC asked me to consider a SNS for our breastfeeding issues. You can see my last post for the complete story, but basic summary is my LO is five weeks and does not latch. I am pumping enough, so I would be using expressed BM. Does anyone have experience using this? If so, how long did you use it, and how did it help?

I used one briefly when LO was born (he was about 2.5 weeks early). We had a difficult time with latching and so they had use the sns with bm and formula. I can't remember the exact amount of time we used it but I think it was maybe a couple of weeks - it was a bit of a pain since there are all the parts to clean and then having to pump afterwards was time consuming. Once my production seemed to increase we stopped using the sns and used a shield up until about 6-8 weeks. Everything went well from that point on!
Although it was kind of annoying - we were using it only a short amount of time (in the big picture looking back) and may have contributed to a successful breastfeeding experience.

we used it in the hospital to supplement with pumped breastmilk. It was a pain and wasn't worth it to me honestly. we also had to use it with a nipple shield. my lo also had problems latching (he stopped latching on in the hospital) but we kept trying and now at 2 months he is completely breastfed from my boobs. hang in there momma, I remember those days of exclusively pumping and how hard it was!! your doing great!!

I used one for the first couple of weeks with LO 1. My milk didn't come in for 9 days so I started using it on day 2 or 3. It was a pain because there were lots of parts to wash, clip and tape but it really helped!

We used one briefly with DD1 while in the hospital and at home to supplement before my milk came in. It worked fine the first day or two but then LO got frustrated with it. A L&D nurse told me this time at the hospital that there is something new out that does the something -allow baby to nurse at the boob- but less confusing/annoying to use! She was going to show it to us but the LC at the hospital "couldn't find it". *eyeroll*

Bumping! Any tips making SNS use easier and/or how to manage everything along with pumping after every feeding? We only have 2.5hrs between feeds, so it's been quite a challenge for me...

We used it briefly right after LO was born. The SNS is pretty messy and a hassle, but I think it ultimately contributed to me having a successful full year of EBF (with the exception of the formula used with the SNS at the beginning). As far as pumping between feeds, it's so hard and you're probably gonna feel like it's ALL you do. One thing that helped me was getting the sterilizer bags to clean the parts after pumping. That at least felt like I had a LITTLE extra time between pumping and having to nurse again. Good luck!

@annie624: That's a great idea! You still have to rinse everything though, right? I keep my pump parts in the fridge for 2 days or so to minimize washing. Which is fine, since all the milk is being used right away these days.
Just a little backstory... DS is almost 4mo and has trouble getting enough from the breast, so my supply has dwindled for the second time. Using the SNS with formula right now, but hoping my output will increase quickly so we can use less.
