J woke up with a small rash on his back, but while getting him ready for bed it was significantly worse and spread down his back and to his chest. He is really bothered by it and it itches like crazy.
He did just get over an illness - he had a respiratory infection Saturday to Monday, and a low-grade temp until yesterday (It never went above 100).
any ideas what this could be?

Could it be roseola? My son had 3-4 days of fever so urgent care thought he had an ear infection but then he got a rash for 2-3 days and the pediatrician was like oh that's definitely roseola then.

@gingerbebe: he has had roseola before, the rash looks similar hit typically it's a really high rash (last time it was 103). So I'm not sure.
@T.H.O.U.: I have no idea. I sure hope not! As far as I know he hasn't been around anyone whose had chickenpox, he and his whole daycare are vaccinated. I looked at pictures and it doesn't quite look the same- plus it's only his back/chest.

@Mrs. Pen: I was thinking it looked like chicken pox...rosella is more all over...I'd def send a pic to the doc!

@Mrs Green Grass: hmmm I was under the impression that chickenpox was more all over too. It seems pretty mild for chickenpox... maybe because he's vaccinated??

Roseola that I've seen is more all over and much smaller pin prick size dots close together.
What about maybe a bed bug or bite?
I've heard kids having mild cases and pox starting slow

It doesn't look like roseola. When DD had it, her temp spiked up to 102-104 and then she had the rash after the fever broke. Also, her rash wasn't itchy, nor did it bother her.
I would definitely go get it checked. Sorry you have to deal with this on thanksgiving!

@Freckles: yeah that's the same with when J had roseola. Temp was 103.
ugh now you all have me so nervous! He's acting totally fine! Not acting sick at all..

My brother used to get rashes like that when he ate something on the verge of going bad. Not that you would feed him anything spoiled but it was just weird - if anything was mildly about to go past its date he would break out in an itchy rash like that. It was something like milk that had been in out in his cup a little long or scrambled eggs that had been sitting out at breakfast and he came back to eat mid morning (that he wasn't supposed to eat but that Mom hadn't had a chance to clean up yet).
