Olive does because we don't have a car so she's not used to it. Charlie hated it too until he was older than 2. Being able to face forward at 1 made a big difference, but it wasn't until pretty recently that he was ok sitting in a car seat for a long time, and he always falls asleep too which he never used to do.
It's tough to go anywhere further than 30 minutes with Olive in the car because she starts throwing a fit!
Anyone else's baby hate riding in the car?

My son hated the car seat as a baby as well. We didn't have a car at the time either so that's probably why. My daughter hated the car seat as a newborn as well. She would scream through the entire car ride. Now she's fine and can even fall asleep in it.

I'm on vacation right now and LO hates being in her car seat. She screams her head off when she is in the seat for more than 15 mins!

When we moved from NY to CA, DD 2 hated it for the first 2 weeks. She would cry and cry... It was torturous being in the car with her. Now she doesn't mind it at all. We live in a central location though so we aren't in a lot of traffic nor do we drive very far anyway though. If we do, I try to time it with one of her naps.

My daughter hated car rides too up until she was 5 months old. Now she somewhat tolerates it up to about 30 minutes then she starts fussing. I think it's the combination of being confined with no fun things to do (she gets bored of the toys we do brig after a bit). I thought all babies were supposed to like car rides!

Yes, I think they just have to get used to it, which isn't really possible for you if you don't normally have a car. But they outgrow it, so she'll be fine during your next trip, at least!

LO loved the car/carseat because as a colicky baby, it was the only thing that would soothe her. But now at a year old, she doesn't like it if she's wide awake and alert - she wants out to play.

LO HATES her carseat and cries whenever she's being strapped in. She usually calms down once we start moving but cries again anytime the car slows or stops, which in LA traffic can be often! She'll usually fall asleep after 10 minutes or so of fast driving.
Last weekend there was a huge accident and the freeway was shut down all day. We were stuck for 2 1/2 hours trying to get home with LO screaming at the top of her lungs the whole time. It was so stressful we finally gave up and drove all the way back to my parents house to wait it out.

She goes through stages. When she was little she hated when we stopped and would freak out if we were at a light, but then would be fine the second we hit a green light again. Now she's ok for short distances, as long as she has her leap frog lap top.

God yes. Liv HAAAAAAATES it. She buicks and tries to rip the straps off and makes Hulk noises like shes trying to rip them. She ahs screamed for over 3 hours before without a break. We turned her seat around at 11 months (I know, I know) and it made a huge difference, but after like 30 mins or so now she wants OUT

Lily hates it! It Breaks my heart hearing her scream and nothing helps! I try to get her to sleep before getting in the carseat, and that tends to be better until she wakes up! Glad to know that this is a pretty common thing, because I have always heard how much babies like to be in the car and will fall asleep, no way, not Lily!

my baby used to hate it, especially if we stopped at a light, we realized we had to only go out right after she had a meal and a fresh diaper then she would be a happy camper. now she loves the car especially because she can finally see me in the mirror and she has toys dangling from the car seat handle

bumping this because i am really having a hard time with my 10 week old. i have felt really confined as it is with a newborn but now that she is older i am going a bit stir crazy and in the last week going ANYWHERE has been really difficult without her losing it after about 10-15 minutes. i think she now has the awareness she is alone - i can sing to her for a bit and talk to her but it doesn't always work.
do you just power through? give in and stay home? it's much easier if one of us is back there with her but that's only possible on the weekends.

I just power through.. and he screams bloody murder.. then finally goes to sleep.
