@septca: Oh no.. but like @theotherstark says you can spot around AF and have a very healthy pregnancy. I spotted a TON when I was pregnant with B.

Can someone explain to me how HPTs work vis a vis implantation, etc.? I know this is kind of a stupid question from someone who usually knows a lot about TTC, but I am totally confused. Everything I have found indicates that implanation occurs 6-12 days after O and that implantation signals the production of HCG. Then it takes another 2-3 days for the level of hcg in your *blood* to build up enough to be detected on a beta. Dr. Google thinks it takes yet another 2-3 days for hcg levels to be detected via urine on an early response test.

That would mean that women wouldn't get a + HPT until at least 10 DPO, and possibly as late as 18 DPO. That'c clearly not the case, as many women get BFPs as early as 8 DPO and we usually consider ourselves "out" by about 13 DPO. So what gives? Dr. Google also talks big talk about getting a BFP *before* IB, which just seems impossible unless the blood from implantation was just hanging out for a few days...

@septca: I think you can implant early or be off on your O date. As for implantation spotting I think that can happen as the baby "digs in." My OB said spotting is very common with 2nd pregnancies because your uterus is already stretched out.

@septca: This BFP I had an IB spot eight hours later.

@septca: I did some research and everything indicates that you should probably call your doctor and explain what's going on. I know this seems like cop out advice, but they say that it could range from 100% normal implantation bleeding to potential CP / ectopic pregnancy. I would just defer to better safe than sorry in this case (especially since I think it's your good side). They may tell you just to wait it out, but at least they are making that call. I really hope I'm not overstepping anything with this and I have my fingers super crossed for you!!!

ETA: Link from American Pregnancy Association that seems to address your question - 2nd one on the page:

@BakerBee: Thanks. Totally not overstepping. I *really* should just email my doctor and let her know what's what. At this early stage I am dealing with my endo doctor (not my MW) and she has certainly been around the block with me... I guess I have been hesitating because: (1) I am embarrassed for being an early POASer and I am afraid she is totally gonna give me the side eye, and (2) I think she is going to have me come in for a beta, which I have been dreading. But honestly, I should just suck it up - on both fronts. Spotting has stopped (it was the tiniest dot), so if it stays away I will go in for a beta tomorrow. I'd rather just know, I guess.

ETA: I emailed my doctor. She might totally roll her eyes at me, but whatever. I guess now we will see what she says. I have an u/s scheduled for next week, but I am not sure I will make it that far.

@septca: I totally understand. I tested at 10dpo and I felt like everyone (husband included) was giving me the side eye. I think it's a GREAT sign that the spotting has stopped - I did read that it could be that it took the blood longer to get down to you (some say it relates to BM's... TMI, I know) or that it just is blood related to everything getting situated (yum!). At this point you are 12dpo (I think), which is a totally normal time to have been testing!

Silver lining about beta's - if you get in for testing early enough tomorrow, you should be able to go back for the doubling test on Friday and not have to deal with wondering all weekend? I know all this waiting sucks though. We are all here to look at tests, research with you, and just support you.

ETA: Just saw your update! Remember that your insurance pays her the big bucks to give you top notch care and you pay them to pay her - think of it as getting your monies worth

@septca: I think it sounds like implantation spotting. And from what I have read implantation takes several days, so even though implantation my start on day 10 you may not bleed until day 14 or later. I got my first squinter bfp at 9dpo and I spotted on day 14. I Have gotten implantation spotting on everyone of my pregnancies, the first time it was 10dpo, the second time it was 8dpo and this time 14dpo. The first two times it was a tiny dot just like yours, the third time it was just tinged CM, but lasted all day long. I think its a good sign, keeping my fingers crossed for you love.

@septca: I started spotting when AF was due and pretty much kept spotting until almost 11 weeks. I'm now 13 weeks with no more spotting and baby has looked healthy the whole time. Fingers crossed for you.

As far as the hCG being formed, yes it really ramps up at implantation but the beginnings of hCG production begin when the "capsule" surrounding the fertilized egg is shed in preparation for implantation. That's why we can get BFPs within a day or two of implanting.

I'm feeling quite frustrated. I'm on CD22 and no O yet. I had a almost positive OPK on CD14, but now they're all over the place. Somedays they're hardly any second line, sometimes it seems about half way positive.. then back to hardly anything. I also think one of my packages of OPK's is messed up. The control line seems light compared to my other ones ( same brand, different lot #'s.) When I used 2 tests from different lots with the same urine sample, I got different results. I emailed the company to ask if they had problems with this lot, they said no complaints, but they'd send me a new package. My temperatures are all over the map too. I guess it's best to just keep taking OPK's and temping but it's getting frustrating and confusing! I have patches of EWCM or watery CM every day for the last week and a half. I forgot how stressful TTC is

My temperature is up awhile degree today (10 dpo). Think that could mean something? Or am I just looking for things? Haha

  37. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@KelLeeLeee: I think it'll depend on what your temps do tomorrow! If they are still up (and you're not sick), it could be a sign of a triphasic chart!!

@KelLeeLeee: Did you feel any cramping at all yesterday or today? I experienced mild cramping (or pinching) and then my temps went up and it meant a BFP for me! Fingers crossed for you!

I asked on the May thread, but I'm a worrier, so I wanted to get your feedback, too. Is this positive? It's from last night, and this morning's test was faded out a little from this. Thanks for your expert eyes ladies
