I am an intense traveler. I want to see and do as much as I can. My DH wants a much more relaxed vacation. He really can struggle to vacation with me.

I think we are great at communicating in general so we just talk about priorities and must sees. NYC was a little rough for us because I was pregnant and we did a ton of walking and sightseeing since it was likely a once in a lifetime trip for us- not relaxing. Usually we dig a beach vacation with some walkibility so Hawaii is our jam.

We are good until we actually get on the trip, and then all that togetherness, yeah. We have at least one big argument every vacation.

I have very little desire to travel at this point in my life... I'd rather spend our money on our house or saving for retirement or whatever. I'm a total homebody. DH likes to travel but is not a planner at all, so between the two of us we don't go away often. When we do travel we work great together because we are both comfortable with a mix of relaxing and doing touristy things.

I can see us traveling a lot more when our future kids are older and out of the house and we have more financial freedom. In my ideal world we would just buy a cottage by a lake and vacation there all the time.

DH is pretty go with the flow when it comes to travel since he doesn't have the same experience as me. Therefore I get to make all the traveling decisions. So it works until I get tired of making decisions, especially like where to eat. HE now knows he has to be ready to come up with the plan for food and ready in the map department. He is actually in charge of maps (since I am not the greatest and it takes a lot of thinking on my part) but I usually do it anyway because I am such a planner. But in actual day of movement I can second guess myself and I default to him. I should really let him just do it!
He and I have been on big city, get going trips a lot so we intentionally plan relaxing do-nothing trips to balance it out. Or we will have a half day of do nothing. Since LO is so young we like to stick around the hotel amenities after sundown so it works out.

Yes, extremely compatible. We both love to travel and prefer action over relaxation generally (sightseeing, hiking, tours, etc. over beach or resort vacations). We like to pre-plan most of our trip and we especially love to find good restaurants.

In the past, our only source of friction while traveling was that I liked to maintain very strict budgets while on vacation (as in, I'd be updating spreadsheets after every meal or purchase) while he wanted to relax about it. We are lucky now that we don't have to budget as much anymore, so now I try to budget the major stuff (hotel, airfare) ahead of time and I don't worry as much about the rest of it during our trip.

We have both had to change a bit since having LO to be more go with the flow, and I think we've done a pretty good job with that.

Neither of us likes to be on vacation for very long, but we have very different ideas of how to spend our time while on vacation. DH would be fine doing one fun activity a day and taking things slow. I rather spend my time sightseeing and checking off the must-do/ see list. We both agree on eating our way through new places though. In terms of frequency, we don't travel much, is fine because agreeing on where to go is a huge task in itself.

Yes! I love to travel, and I think he has grown to love traveling even more since we have been together. I remember we took a trip internationally when we were dating and I remember thinking about whether we would have a good time and we did. We are both history geeks who like to explore places and eat good food. He does not like museums of any kind, but I like art museums. We are compatible on the main stuff, so it works. We try to continue to travel with our daughter. I'm very happy that I am married to someone who is compatible in this way.
