Do you plan your life around TTC or TTC around your life?

DH and I take one big international trip each year and are in the early planning stages for a trip next spring. We are also planning to TTC #1 in the new year. Because of all the unknowns that comes with that, I'm having trouble signing off on a potential destination. The places we've been talking about (think Africa or SE Asia rather than Europe or lying on a beach somewhere) seem like they could be unenjoyable if I were to be pregnant -- I don't know if I'd be comfortable walking a lot, if I'd get morning sickness, if I'd have to avoid certain foods etc...

I'm torn on whether to stick with our more adventurous ideas and hope for the best (whether that's an easy pregnancy or not being pregnant during our trip) or to play it safe and pick a tamer destination. It seems silly to change our vacation plans when I'm not even pregnant yet, and if this is potentially our last child-free big trip I'd like to enjoy it! DH would appreciate a more exotic trip but is deferring to me on this one.

At the same time, I don't want to postpone TTC just to take a vacation, especially since we've been fortunate enough to travel overseas several times. I'm not expecting immediate success due to PCOS, and insurance requires at least a year of TTC before paying for any infertility treatments.

Would you take the chance on booking the trip? Pick a less exciting but easier destination? Or if you traveled abroad during early pregnancy, how did it go?
