I'm thinking of doing an art gift basket or similar for a birthday party this weekend. What would you put in it for a 4 year old and what would you put the supplies in? She said she loves coloring/drawing/crafts so I'm assuming she's not too picky about messy stuff.

- Crayola pipsqueaks washable markers
-a couple of colors of elmers washable glitter glue
-pipe cleaners*
-Google eyes*
- foam shapes*
- pony beads* (if this won't upset parents as a choking hazard for siblings)
- sequins/rhinestones** items are easy to grab I. The craft section of dollar tree. If you're there anyway, maybe add some stickers or one or two of those sticker "mosaic" kits
I'd put it in a sterilite container with a lid - I found done hot pink ones at Target that were fun. You could also personalize the container with her name in market, paint or stickers.

We love the Crayola slick sticks! They are a great texture and not many people have them it seems but they are easy to find.
Tempera cakes are on my next to try list.
Blank books or canvas panels might also be really fun and special for a 4 year old.
Stamps and ink are awesome.
You could also print a craft idea or 2 off of Pinterest and include the stuff they would need.

@Cole: do those slick sticks dry, or do they remain tacky to the touch? I've been wanting to try them, but I am not sure what they are like!
I recently bought the following for my son:
poster board pieces, like arros, balloons, etc
poster board in legal size, plain white
alphabet stickers
mod podge
stamp pads (6 pack of rainbow stripe)
tempera paint cakes
craft bucket with pipe cleaners, googly eyes, popsicle sticks
glitter glue
scrapbook paper
foam shapes
markers (crayola makes this tri-tip ones that are unusual)
paper trimmer, hole punch -
They aren't wet or really even sticky but they'd probably smudge if you really rubbed them. They are kind of like writing with lipstick but they won't transfer color that much. I'd say they are less mess than oil pastels but more than plain crayons. My toddler discovered that they write beautifully on skin so that's the current downside here...

We gifted a Melissa and Doug headband making kit. It was cheap a huge hit. Might be nice to add that in!

Target had a bunch of craft kits on clearance when I was there today.
