at what point did you get an epidural?

I was at 9 cm and had just arrived at the hospital. I think they did it just because I was freaking the hell out. It didn't work at all, and I kind of wanted to write and ask for my money back

    10cm

I asked for it when I thought I couldn't handle the contractions any more (looking back, I was probably in transition) and it took about 2 hours for the epidural to arrive at my room (he was in an emergency and couldn't get to me quicker). When he got there, they just went ahead and placed it..... and THEN checked me to see how far I was. The nurse said "You're going to hate this, you are at a 10 and ready to push"

LOL. I got an hour of rest, pushed for 4 hours... and then needed an emergency c-section

I planned to give birth naturally, but I eventually ran out of energy and strength to continue. I was at 9ish cm and went through 28 hours of labor. I wasn't progressing at that point, so they wanted to give me pitocin. I told them if they were going to that, I needed the epidural first. I heard contractions are killer on pitocin.

I was induced because my water broke and contractions didn't start overnight on their own. The induction started at 8am and I held out till 2pm and I was only 4cm. I couldn't relax which was stopping me from dilating further... my midwife suggested the epidural and I went from 4cm-10cm pretty quickly. Next time I wouldn't wait so long, I wasn't doing myself any favours

Got to the hospital and I was 4cm. It took them about two hours before I could get one and if ally got it at 5cm. 3 hours later I was ready to push!

@edelweiss: Almost exactly the same as you! 4cm, after water broke and contractions were 1-2 min apart almost immediately. I was stuck in triage for several hours but got the epi almost as soon as I could. Best decision ever. I was ready to push within an hour.

I got one at 5 cm after 15 hours of labor. 1.5 hours later I was at 10 cm and ready to push - 15 minutes later he was born. I'm asking for one earlier this time!

I got one around 4cm after about 6-7 hours of labor. My contractions were one on top of the other for over 2 hours though.

@simplyfelicity: I was trying to do it naturally but after that many hours and 2 days of no sleeping or eating, I couldn't go any longer without it. Insanity though because I was JUST at their cut off to get one.

With LO1, I went to the hospital after my water broke but I hadn't had any contractions (and at my OB's the day before I was a loose 3 cm). My contractions started within 2 hours of my water breaking and they were very hard and 2 minutes apart. I wanted the epi ASAP, but had to wait (because the drs were busy). I was 7 cm by the time I got an epi. It slowed down my labor, but I was fully dilated within 5 hours and pushed for an hour before DS was born.

Not sure how long I was in labour for at that point, but I was 2cm when I received my epidural.

I think I was 4 cm and puking. Then I got the epidural and had a blissful night of sleep and woke up fully dilated.

@edelweiss: Water broke at 1 a.m. I was 5 cm already....... had contractions and walked through most of them...I asked for the EPI around 8 a.m. I was almost 8cm ........I also started Pitocin then as well as I was stalled at 8 for awhile!
