Our is about a 15 min car drive, slightly past where I work.

@mrsjazz: I do both , most because I have shorter hours. Dh works 40 minutes outside of our city in the middle of nowhere, also he's in a carpool.

If I'm unable to do drop-off/pick-up for whatever reason, my mom will usually do it or DH will leave work early to get her. Even though I work shorter hours, his job is much more flexible which is nice in a pinch!

It's fine now but I envision it to be a lot more chaotic when our second LO comes along

I do drop off and pick up, and it takes about 20 minutes to get there and about 30 minutes to get home due to traffic. I drive. We live in a small "metropolitan area" but for all intents and purposes you can just call us rural.

There were closer options but we went with the place that felt the best. Its really not terrible- in the morning she is usually pretty quiet and reads books (and then I enjoy a little time to myself on my 15 minute drive to work). The drive home can be a little stressful because she is often quite tired, so I have to sing/tell stories/talk to her the whole way or else she cries, which is kind of hard to listen to after a long day of work!

Daycare is about 10 minutes away and on my way to work. Not as convenient for DH but our schedules mean I do the vast majority of pick ups and drop offs. We are planning to move this year and moving farther from school is definitely a concern as this is a pretty good set up!

@ladybee: singing the wheels on the bus 30 times in a row in traffic is the most awful thing i can imagine doing on one's drive home from work. and yet, here i am.

It usually takes 15 minutes to get to daycare from home and anywhere from 20-40 minutes home, depending on traffic. The drive there is pretty good, but on our way home it is either awesome or terrible. We drive.

It is .7 miles door to door. I love it! She was in a center by my work, 30-45 mins away depending in traffic. Closer to home is so much better. 1) DH can help out 2) Easier when we are off work and take her to school 3) she isn't in the car for so long. It is much better for her and I to not have that commute together.

Ours is pretty much on the way to work abut 5 minutes before I get to my office. I have to nip in two blocks off route. She's with me for about 17 minutes of the commute.

Daycare is about 20 min drive from our house but it is on the way to work so it isn't too bad. I wish it were a little closer to home but I do like how close to work it is.

Our daycare is a 2 min walk. When my older LO starts kindergarten, it will be about a 15 min walk, or faster if we can catch the tram right away.

Ours is a 10 minute drive. It's a little out of the way for both Hubs and I, but not too bad since it is close to home. Hubs does drop off and I do pick up.

It's on the way for me. I drop off then take the train. It's also 5 minutes from our home so it makes it easier on both.

We drive but ours used to add 10-15 minutes one way to our commute. Now it adds about 8 minutes. I say pick the one you are most happy with and deal with the commute. It is so worth it.
