DH and I are so indecisive about names - DS is due in 2 weeks and we've got nada. We did this with DD too, and it turned out alright but why not ask strangers on the internet
Here are our top contenders: Silas, Eli, and Dean (DH's grandfather's name). DD is Everly and our last name starts with an E.
What do you like? Any other suggestions?

@mrs.lemon-lime I guess we do like short names, I hadn't thought about it before but you're right!! I like Evan but it's my boss's name so that might be weird

@emilye519: I also really like Dean. FWIW, I think Evan is too close to Everly, anyway. What's your reaction to all the Dean love? Does that make you excited, or disappointed that another name hasn't gotten more votes? I think listening to your gut that way can help you figure out which name you really love best.

@pancakes it honestly surprises me! It isn't a super popular name and my husband is really close to that grandfather so I think he would be so proud to name his son that - I'm not sure why we didn't think more seriously about it before. It's sort of an old guy name to me but I think that's because I don't really know any younger men or kids named Dean.
I liked the name Silas a lot but am really not thrilled with the association with duck dynasty and we live in the South. I like Eli but both mine and my daughter's names start with E and it feels too matchy for us all to have E names.

@emilye519: Dean is my dad's name and I've always loved it. I was scrolling down to support it and figured I would be the only one (I assumed Silas would be the top pick since it's very popular/trendy/hipster and that's the way a lot of HB leans) so I pleasantly share in your surprise over the love for Dean!
ETA: The only reason I didn't use Dean as my son's name is because my brother was due with a baby boy a week before me and in our childhood had often talked about naming his son Dean (my brother and my grandfather share a name, so it would then be alternating namesakes). My brother ended up using Dean as his son's middle name. And I actually used my brother/grandfather's name as my son's middle name.

We almost named our son Elias (nickname Eli). I like how Silas sounds, but I associate it with Silas Marner and the story doesn't resonate with me. Other names we liked: Jeremiah (not chosen because we didn't like the nickname Jerry), Benjamin (not chosen because my cousin has that name), Theodore (nickname Theo, not Teddy). We wound up naming our son Tobias (nickname Toby).

Do a coin flip! Heads for Dean, tails for Silas. When that coin is in the air, usually your gut hopes for one over the other.

We almost named our first LO Elijah but I'm super partial to Hebrew names for some reason. That said, I do think Dean is a great name for a boy! I'm also partial to names that are unlikely to be misspelled (I have a common name with two equally common spellings, and people misspell my name at least 50% of the time).

Thanks for the input everybody! I'm gonna tell DH about the great response to Dean and the other suggestions too! Maybe we won't be winging it this time around
