So I am not even TTC. Not til next June when we get married but me and the fiance have already been talking about names. We actually agree on them for the most part. My question is this: All of our names are unique (maybe even beyond unique?) and some of my friends or family say my future kids will get made fun of. Do I ignore this and still name them the names I want? I don't see them getting made fun of except maybe for being too awesome. I mean, can't you be made of for almost any name these days?

I've never met another Adia in my entire life. (My name is not pronounced like the song) I've gotten nothing but compliments. Every day someone tells me that my name is beautiful and a breath of fresh air.
However, I am glad that my parents didn't go too crazy.
I'm actually waiting for my daughter to meet a Uniqua (from Backyardigans) lol I know someone has already done it! -

I did this with the names DH and I chose to see how they'd say throughout life... is it a name they can grow with, etc. If you like it and feel confident in it being a good name for your child then who else is there really to say anything.

Hmmm. I guess it depends on what you mean by 'unique'.
You want the "wow, that's different but really pretty" reaction - which is the reaction that I imagine Miss Adia would get.You don't want the "what the heck were those parents thinking??" reaction. It really doesn't matter what other people think of the name you choose but I think you need to keep in mind that people do make assumptions based on names. Most of the time the assumption is along the lines of 'that poor kid to have idiots as parents, who would call a child Doorknob/Orange/Looweee ?'
I figure I don't have to give my child a unique name to make them unique - they ARE unique, whether I call them Bob or Byllee-Gowt. -
@anonysquire: They are all lovely names. Though if honest I would stear clear of the Danger is my middle name thing. That's just me though.

Danger and Sparkle seem a little... out there.... But otherwise, I see no problem. (Ozymandias falls into very old, very rare names category. It's a legitimate name, but will likely be viewed as odd by other children.)

Or something that will get teased like Fabreeze...but spelled Fabrease.
My landlords son's middle name is Danger, first name Simon. I said that he is going to be a lady killer later in life. "My middle name is Danger...not for real. It's Danger. Look at my I.D."

I think the only two out of that list that would almost guarantee some sort of teasing are Sparkle and Casper (especially if they're fair skinned!). The other ones are all cute, and who knows, kids seems to always figure out a way to make fun of people's names.

@Miss Adia: lol. DH was set that our first son was going to be Felix Danger.
I mean, some of those names I wouldn't really even consider unique (Stella is a top 10 girls name) so I guess it depends on your definition of unique. I would never name my kid something that would guarantee teasing, but I also don't want super common names.

My test is always “Judge <potential name>” or “Senator <potential name>”. There are a lot of kreatyve names that might be cute for little kids, but won’t really translate into names that would work well in a board room, or a court room, or just for adults. I think most of those names wouldn’t be considered that “out there” since many are current celebrity baby names that many people would be familiar with. For myself, I love Stella and Georgia.

Unusual names don't bother me at all, just blatantly made up ones or naming your kid something like "Avenger Moneybags Crimefighter." My general rule is, if it sounds ok after President, Doctor, or Senator but could still be the name of a poet, you're good to go.

It depends on how unique the name is. Its one thing to have a name thas unusual but nice, but its different if the name is just odd or weird, To me a name like Danger is definitely going to get picked on.

I love most of the names on your list. I don't think they're too "out there".
Also, if kids are going to bully someone, they'll find something to bully them about. Whether it's their name, their build, their hair color, their glasses, they will find something, so I wouldn't use that as a naming criteria. Just raise your child to love themselves and tell those bullies to f-off
On a side note, if we have a son, DH wants to name him Ocean..... THAT is a little too out there for me. MAYBE as a middle name...maybe.... -
I worry about these unique names as the child gets older and becomes a working professional. @yoursilverlining mentioned that as well. If I saw someone's resume and their name was Apple, Leaf or Cloud (or anything in that range) I would probably think twice about even looking at their resume.
I think if parents name their kids something completely off the wall, they are setting their kid up for failure....even if the parent's name is Gwyneth.

Sparkle, Danger and Casper made me think "Oh honey, no." But I like the other ones, some are celebrity kids names, so it might lower the unique factor.

@ecogirl: That would be wise lol. Sometimes I think people are so fixated on an unusual name, the purpose of a name gets lost. Sure, a name like "Moonglow Firedancer" might be usual, but is it really going to make life easier for your kid having that name? Most people who aren't major celebrities just can't get away with it, and sometimes not even celebrities can!

There is a customer service rep that works for Caremark Specialty Drug team and her name is Sparkle. I bet it's a conversation starter and how could you be mad at a person named Sparkle?

Now Sparkle, Danger, and Casper I think are a little more out there, maybe as a middle name? But also, not my child, so I say go with what you guys both like!
We're going with a unique name but it has a lot of meaning to us, we're naming our daughter Billie Evelyn Jazz (not my real last name
because jazz is what brought us together and we both love Billie Holiday's music. Some people have given us the side eye and others just love it.@Miss Adia: My best friend in elementary school is named Adia
She's the only one I've ever met in real life and she pronounces it the same way you do.

Our daughter has a unique name, but she has a more common middle name, so, if she hates her name, she can go by her middle name. Maybe you could do something like that.

I feel like you can't go right anymore. It's either too weird or too boring. No matter what, people will complain.
Nobody complained (to our face ) about my lo's name, but I still worry it's too much of an old person name. But we love it, and hopefully she will too.

I love those names!! I like unique names that are not totally out there - aka you can still figure out how they're pronounced (none of this spelling things totally weird just because you can).
One of my closest friend's middle name was Lucy and she went to Court to change it to add Danger. So her name is Firstname Lucy Danger Lastname. It's kinda funny! Her driver's license wouldn't fit it all so she shortened it to Firstname L'Danger Lastname, LOL.

Didn't read all the comments but I really like most of the names you listed. Just unique enough. But some of them I think (?) are gaining popularity, so if that's something you don't want, you should probably just look up your final contenders!

After reading this post 11 months later, I'm thinking I won't be comfortable posting my future kids names here lol. The list I posted here was my safe list, the real ones might be a little to weird for you guys.
