We use a lands end lunch bag with a water bottle on the outside - fits great with an ice pack inside

I don't have a Bentgo, but we use divided Sistema containers (1 for lunch and 1 for snack) and like the Packit freezable lunch bag (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IAY6HAA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03__o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I stick it in the freezer overnight and it stays cold pretty much until I take it out of her backpack at night (so 10-11 hrs). I like not having to send a separate ice pack. It has plenty of room but folds up small so it doesn't take up much room in the freezer.

@LemonJack: I have the Bentgo Kids one and the compartments are very small... I use it for my preschooler's snack. The larger compartment fits half a sandwich, or a yogurt smoothie container, all of the other parts are smaller but I find it works and typically do clementine slices or strawberries in the long narrow one, crackers in one, and the tiny one in the middle is good for a sweet treat, usually a few chocolate chips or marshmallows

I have the PBK lunch box & corresponding 'bento' for my older son for lunch - it holds a lot more food, it's much deeper.

@Mamaof2: I don’t mean to derail the original thread but could you post the insert you have for the lands end lunch bag? I bought that same one for DS (for preschool starting in August) and I was really hoping I could find something to fit within it!

@wrkbrk: just FYI that’s the one @hellobeeboston: and I were saying is a little small/ compartments are too small for a full sandwich.

@wrkbrk: @Foodnerd81: I have that kid who never eats sandwiches - she prefers just the meat cut up - so this works great for us - she is in 2nd grade and we still use it two times a week

@LemonJack: I’m attaching a pic of my bentgo kids box with my 5 yo lunch, plus one to show how it just fits in the pbk lunch box- it pushes slightly against the ends but it zips closed no problem. The sandwich is a whole sandwich cut with a Dino cutter and sort of jammed in there. That’s one small apple sliced up.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: My daughter is 4 but i.gad her test opening the Sistema containers when we bought them and she didn't have any trouble. The lunch bag zips and velcroes so it's easy. I just stick the bag in the freezer the night before, add her lunch about 7am, and it's only starting to thaw when I pick her up from her after school program at 5pm. There's still plenty of room in the bag too so I know it will be useful for years.

SNACK BENTO! By the way I realized I never answered your original question. I don't put it in a bag. I just through the whole thing in his backpack and put it in the top of his cubby at preschool.
