I am trying to find somewhere to go for my birthday in December. I found a cool Airbnb in Berkeley, about 3 hours away from us. Is Berkeley a fun place to visit for two nights?
It will be our first trip away without kids since LO2 was born (he will be 18 months old at the time). We are mainly looking to hang out, eat some good food, drink some cocktails, and sleep in (LO2 still does not sleep through the night 
).

I lived in Berkeley for three years, and I'd say, for that length of visit, probably fun! For a longer vacation, I'd prefer to stay in San Francisco or Oakland, but both are fairly accessible from Berkeley if you want to do something elsewhere.
There are plenty of really good food options around Berkeley proper. It's been a few years since I've been back, but in my memory a lot of the bars really catered to the college crowd, so if that's not your scene, choose carefully when looking for drinks or nightlife - that would be where I'd head in to Oakland or SF.

I'm also planning on hitting up the IKEA in emeryville since our closest one is three hours away

@Purpledaisy: I've lived in Berkeley on and off for many years...it's a great place to visit. I now live in Oakland but could offer some fun bar/restaurant suggestions if you want to wall me.
@youboots: Jeremy's closed at least a year ago, maybe longer. Such a bummer!!
