Another birthday party question: My sons have birthdays a month and a half apart. We would invite the same friends and family to both parties. I'm worried that people might think the parties are too close together, and maybe I should do a joint party. What do you think?
Edited to add: The people we invite to the parties are all local.

If most of the family and friends are local, as long as the parties aren't on the same weekend, I don't think its an issue (to have a party for each child near their birthdays). If most of your guests are out of town and traveling, then I'd consider combining parties.

@Bluebonnet: That's a good point. Our friends and family are all local, so nobody would have to travel far. I think I'm worried about taking up multiple weekends in the late spring/summer when people like to go out and do things as a family.

I don't think two parties a month and a half apart is bad...I'd go to both. I wouldn't do two on consecutive weekends but it sounds like there'd be at least a month between parties?

Even if they are two weekends in a row.. I don't think I won't go because of that. As long as our schedules are free, we'd go, especially if it's local.

I think it's important to celebrate each child individually, if you can. Since everyone is local, I'd do separate parties for both. I'd think about combining only if we were doing something extra special (like having it somewhere cool, but expensive).

My LOs are similarly apart. One was born at the end of Jan and one the first week of March they have the shortest month of the year between them which makes them about 4.5 weeks apart.
I'm going to combine their birthday party with friends and family. It is just too much trouble to plan two parties so close together! Then have small celebrations with them with just our small family by doing something special.
I do plan to separate when they have too many of their own friends. (aka go to school)

I personally don't think a month and a half apart is that close to warrant combining. If it was like same week, I can see the logistics for the parent of having only 1 party. As an invitee it would not affect me at all. I'd go if I had no conflict regardless of timing.

Over a month apart would be fine with me as a guest. But as a host of probably want to combine them until they were old enough to care! I'm not sure how old they are and how much they would notice but I'd make it easy on myself as long as I could.
Says the mom of a baby born a week before Christmas, who will be chipped on bday parties her whole life.

@Raindrop: It is a lot of work planning two parties close together! I feel the same way about separate parties when they are in school (since they will have different friends probaby), but right now it's the exact same people coming to both parties.

I agree with @Boogs! As a host I'd rather do one, but as a guest I totally don't mind attending two close together.
I love seeing the responses to this post since we'll be in the same boat soon with soon-to-be DS due mid-March and our DD's bday is at the end of March.

As a guest, I don't mind attending both. But I can see why you wouldn't want to plan, prep, clean, etc. for 2!

Just to let you know what happened/happening with us.
2012/14 - party for my march kid (one month party/birthday)
2015 - party for my jan kid (one month party)
- small party for my march kid with just grandparents we went to chuck-e-cheese and had a small cake and balloons at home for him. He loved it!!
2016 - party for my jan kid (one year is kind of important)
- another small thing for my march kid
2017 and till they complain - one party in Feb for both. with small individual celebrations on their actual birthdays.
After seeing how much my march kid liked his small celebration I was sold with not having big parties for both.

I think it is up to you! My kids are 2 weeks apart and we are going to do joint parties until they are old enough to have "friend only" parties, and then they will each get their own separate party. I figure by that point the guest lists will be different, so it wont be an issue.

My kids' birthdays are a little less than 2 months apart and I've worried about this. We had 2 parties and it was totally fine! I'm so glad that they each got to have their special day and everyone was thrilled to celebrate them.

My kids have birthdays two weeks apart, and Thanksgiving is in between. Still, I'm a big believer in celebrating them individually, so I will do the first party the weekend before DD2's birthday and DD1's the weekend after hers. That puts them 3 weeks apart at minimum.

My kids' birthdays are four days apart I have no idea what we will do. But I think a gap of a month makes two parties a non issue.

My kids birthdays are 6 weeks apart and I am combining them because the guest list is the same and they're only 1 and 3.
