One of my daughter's friend's from daycare is having his birthday party at our favorite children's museum. We would like to take her but it starts at 2pm. She usually naps from 1-4 on the weekends. How would you make this work? All I can see are meltdowns no matter the choice.

We would go and leave early if we needed too, but we would put in an appearance.

Maybe nap from 1-2 go for an hr and see if she crashes again on way home for a bit?!

@mediagirl: will she nap in the car? If so I would leave at 1pm and then let her sleep until the party starts at 2pm

@Mamaof2: she would...I'm just afraid I'm going to have a terribly crankpants on my hands if she gets less than an hour of sleep. Ugh.

I would try putting her down half an hour early and then come to the party a bit late. Maybe around 2:30 or so. Tell the host ahead of time though. It won't be quite as long as her usual nap, but hopefully that will be enough that she can manage through the party.

We skip parties that interfere with nap time & bed time unless it's for family. It always ends up a disaster. If we really wanted to go we would keep LO up and have her nap on the way home from the party.

My child seems to hate naps so I would put him down at 12 instead of 1230 and wake him in time to go. He's fine on a short nap though.

My kids (almost 4 and 2.5) still nap but I would still go. LO 2 might get a little grouchy later but skipping a nap isn't a big deal and bedtime might get pushed up a little.

We would just skip the nap. At 3.5 and 2, skipping naps isn't a huge deal at this point for us.

I'd probably skip the nap even though LO still sleeps 2.5-3 hrs on the weekends...every attempt to move naptime earlier than usual ends in no nap anyways. I'd just plan on an early bedtime.

We would probably skip the nap. My DS's party is in 2 weeks, scheduled for 2:00pm. Most of his friends probably don't take naps, but my daughter is going to have to skip hers to go to the party. We'll probably try to have her nap earlier in the day.

I'd try to do an earlier nap. My kids sleep well in the car so in that situation, I might just leave extra early so that they fall asleep on the way, sleep a bit, then party.
We went to a 4 year olds party recently that was from 2-6pm and a majority of the napping toddlers came late (like an hour late). I wouldn't necessarily do that but seems like it wasn't a big deal.

At ages 2+, we skipped naps when stuff like this came up. If she's younger, I would try for an earlier/car nap, then probably a car nap on the ride home.
